Pandemic History Right Here in Virginia
Oct 2020
This is a well done museum that has an excellent story to tell about the Polio Epidemic. Wytheville was devastated. This is essential history for the times in which we now live. Excellent exhibits including iron lungs and a very good display of newspaper coverage from the times. Self paced. $4 per person.

Fantastic Experience

The Polio exhibit was very well done and we learned so much. The rest of the museum was just as thorough and informative.

The Civil War side was still being developed but was already very informative on the local town events during the war. There was always someone available to answer any questions we had (but not intrusive at all).

Downstairs includes a general store and interactive exhibits for kids relating to early energy sources.

We are planning to return to see The Great Lakes to Florida Highway Museum soon!

Bonus.... free parking across the street.

Polio crisis, very informative

I knew nothing about Wytheville before I did the tours, and wow, there is a LOT of history in this little town. The polio room was extremely eye-opening and moving, not to mention well-organized and descriptive. I learned a tremendous amount in a short time that I’d otherwise never know. Definitely recommend. It’s only $4 and it will really make you appreciate modern medicine.

A real eye opener.

So much to learn about the scourge of polio. The iron lung was a powerful reminder of what some had to endure before this killer was eradicated in the US. The folks there were very nice and informative.
