My daughter and I hiked Big Schloss early on a Sunday morning. We were worried about the heat so got a pretty early start. There was only one other car in the lot when we arrived. I was a bit worried about the difficulty of the trail because I'd read that it was steep and rocky. I was celebrating my... More

The 4 mile round trip hike to me seemed difficult at times. The view though is completely worth it!!

Hardest part is the first 2/3rd mile - pretty rapid increase in altitude. Once up on the ridge the hike is easier. For nearly all sections your hiking on rock so it's important to wear appropriate hiking boots. The views on the ridge-line are worth the hike by itself. The finale of Big Schloss is spectacular. If your seeking fewer... More

Moderate to easy hike. First 3/4 mile of this 2 miles hike is tough. Climbing about 33 degrees incline. Once it levels out, next 1.3 miles has a couple small climbs, but mostly flat/easy inclines. At the end, views are indescribable. Absolutely stunning and well worth the effort.

The hike is challenging in some areas and easy in others. Plenty of laces for a rest, bring a lunch and something to drink, the views are beautiful.

We were a little worried when we saw this hike described as "strenuous" since my husband and I are both a bit out of shape. But we decided to give it a shot, and boy are we glad we did!!!! If you're worried that this is too much of a hike for your condition, just take it slow and make... More

Definitely a workout, but so worth it. The view is absolutely incredible. Don't miss this hike if you're in the area for a visit.

This is a very rewarding hike with little effort and very very minimal risk or difficulty. The 1st .7 miles are all up hill medium to strenuous. Then about two miles on almost completely flat terrain with multiple overlooks into the valley. This year fall colors just ok during Columbus Day weekend. The .25 mile hike up "big Schloss" is... (This review will focus more on Wolf Gap camp ground). Since 2008 I have camped at Wolf Gap three times, including this past June. I have done the Big Schloss hike before, and I think other reviewers can cover that. There is also another trail across the road from Wolf Gap and the Big Schloss trail continues to the Mill... If you are driving to the trailhead at Wolf Gap from Lost River WV, plan ahead because you will probably travel via some narrow back roads to get there. We hiked the trail with our two dogs, and we carried along water and snacks to keep energized. The first mile had a steady incline and was rocky. The rest of... More
