We really enjoyed our outing to Leesylvania State Park, which is truly a gem. It is a wonderful place for a family picnic, a stroll along several well-marked hiking trails, a day of fishing or boating on the Potomac River, or simply a place to breathe some fresh air after this long COVID-19 lockdown. It draws a really diverse array of families that reflects the rich culture of Northern, Virginia. We had a picnic and then hiked the Lee Woods Trail, which is about 2 miles in a circular route with several historic sites along the way. There are numerous, clean bathrooms in the park.

This was my first time at this State Park and I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon here. What exceptional, knowledgeable, and helpful folks that I got to meet today inside the Visitor Center! I enjoyed the conversation with them about the local history and in-depth knowledge of the in-house residence’s living in the aquariums! I hiked the trails and placards are placed giving information about the parks history and the Lee family. Families were enjoying the picnicking grounds and the Potomac River. I also got to watch the sailing skills of quite a few sailboats navigating on the Potomac River. Also, I was able from a respectful distance observer Ospreys flying into it’s nest and bringing fish to it.

When we arrived at Leesylvania the skies opened up and it rained almost the entire time. Thankfully, we packed umbrellas and shoes to puddle jump but that still didn't allow for us to enjoy everything the park has to offer. We ventured out onto the pier so we could say we walked to Maryland and checked out some of the historical markers on site. The railroad crossing through the park was something unique to Leesylvania and we even got to see a couple of trains cross the river. Definitely a park we'd like to return to to check out the trails.

So sorry you got rained on during your recent visit to Leesylvania State Park. I am glad you were able to enjoy some of what the park has to offer and hope you will be back again soon. Thank you for taking time to write a review.

Such a lovely park! We saw a wild turkey, a bald eagle (and heard it too-- very different than you hear in the movies!), a swimming otter and several herons. But the sunrise at boat ramp one was my favorite view at the start of our visit. Such a lovely and relaxing park with plenty of parking and room to explore.

Beautiful Virginia State Park! $10 to park for out of state residents but worth it! Little river beach that plenty were swimming in including my son. Playground, walking trail, grills, and pavilions. Plenty of shady spots and parking!

We visit this state park monthly or more and love it in every season. Our favorite place in the park is the beach access/boat launching area. Our kids age 3 and 5 are always excited to go exploring on the trails, visit the playground, have a picnic or search for seashells.

This was my first visit to the park near the trailer parking for boats. The beach areas were closed to swimming, but you were still allowed to walk on the beach. I brought my two dogs with me and others did as well. A great area to have a picnic or just walk the trail that pararelles the waters edge. It was enjoyable even though you had to practice social distancing.

Very natural park, huge parking area, many BBQ areas, nice and cozy beaches, great wildlife. Great place to relax for the weekend.

Nice place for a hike or walk. There is a fee for the park, so may want it to be a longer stop. Lots of picnic areas and a nice playground.

Is there a particularly good spot to sit, set up a canopy, eat a picnic lunch and view the water?
Like 15Dutches already mentioned, there are many spots for picnic. You will also find bbq . You just need brequet.
I would like to know if the water is safe to bath in. I have kids and they love the water, but I'm not sure if I should let them go in.
No, it is not and there are no swimming signs posted. Besides the boat traffic, there are areas with underwater growth that is dangerous. It’s always a good idea to check with a Ranger each visit.
