After a great morning breakfast at Not Just Another Pancake house on Richmond Rd we decided to browse the Wallace Trading Company next door. From the outside Wallace Trading Company looked like a fun quirky place for kids and adults alike.
As we approached, we saw signs advertising “Fresh Fudge” with a psychedelic painted VW bus parked off road at its entrance. We could not miss the top of the building ringed with store merchandise labels – candy, toys, T shirts, hats, gifts, peanuts and Virginia foods. As we entered the store, we passed a life size bear and wagon wheel backed benches on its front porch.
Once inside we saw that this really is a mock Trading Post complete with mock Indian head dress, Civil war Union hats, sabers, flint lock rifles, animal pelts, spears, raccoon caps and various type of shields. There was more modern touristy stuff such as T shirts and leisure ware from “Simply Southern”, “Peace Frog” and “Rescue Dogs”.
On the quirky side there was a life size Indian statue inside the store. There was a colorful psychedelic, painted VW beetle with a “Peace Frog” character behind the steering wheel and a second character sitting on a bench next to it.
This was a fun shop to browse through as I looked for Williamsburg T shirts for myself and my grandkids. We were in Williamsburg on a couples’ trip that day but if my adult kids or grandkids were here, I would bring them here for the photo opportunities – maybe sitting next to the Peace Frog or the life size bear – in addition to doing some souvenir shopping.

Wallace's Trading Post was advertised and had coupons in the GO Williamsburg travel book. The store had souvenirs for every taste - t-shirts, hats, trinkets and more. There were sale items, 2 for 1 pricing, and my favorite fun t-shirts where proceeds supported a local pet shelter puppie love. The sales clerk was friendly and honored our coupon, plus explained that with our receipt we can get a free ice cream at the general store. Nice that after an unprecedented year merchants are working together.

Looking for fudge, I found watermelon fudge for the 1st time and loved it. Wallace's Trading Post is "tourist city" but in a good way with all the expected items, including a large section of western gear, Minnetonka shoes, and of course colonial themed items of all types. A nice place to stop and look around for a few minutes.

Perfect place for souvenirs, plenty for all ages. Wide assortment of typical items but also tons of tees and sweatshirts as well as biker and service outterwear. Well worth the time to browse. Staff was very nice

The store at 1851 Richmond road was fun. I do not like to shop or have patience in crowded areas. We went in this store specifically for fudge and ended up wandering around for half an hour or more. The displays are not crowded and there was plenty of room to move around. I actually spent time just browsing which I never do. We went to a similar general store down the road a bit and I couldn't wait to get out of that one.

Stopped here right before heading back home from our vacation. First the good. They have a great selection of fire and ems merchandise. My husband collects shotglasses and there were many to choose from. They also carry the Peace Frog merchandise. It would have been a nice place to shop except for the actions of one of the staff. We originally stopped here to find something to take home to our grandchildren. It was difficult to decide on gifts for the 2 older boys. We spent quite a bit of time looking, walked away and then came back to the area where we were originally looking. As we shopped one of the staff was continually mumbling about her area and how it was always the one getting missed up. I was getting more and more angry. We were not tearing through things we were very careful as we both have spent many years in retail. This lady just wanted to have something to complain about and make sure we heard it. Between the 2 of use we spent over $100. Just think what kind of sale they would have had their staff had been polite and helpful instead of grumbling and being just plain nasty towards customers.

Wallace's Trading Post is part of five stores and a family run business for over 100 years. When you first walk through the door, you're greeted warmly by the highly professional staff who give you a brief rundown of what they have to offer. The store is subdivided into sections where each area has its own specialty items; Native American, Western, Sports (NFL & MBL), Guns & Knives, Family Apparel, Minnetonka shoes, Women's haberdashery, Gifts, and fine Jewelry. Two main areas are the Fudge Factory where the fudge maker creates award winning assorted/seasonal flavors and some never even found in the nation. The second being an exclusive clothing line made in nearby Gloucester called Peace Frogs. Prices are reasonable for the keen shopper in mind who know quality when they see it. Also, the Summer season hosts the Colonial Williamsburg Fife and Drum who play two nights a week. Definitely, a great place to shop and meet the locals.

The grandson's love this store. Such a selection of items for Grandma, a 17 year old as well as the five year old. Plenty of items from which to choose and oh, by the way....the fudge is super!! My one grandson collects knives and each time we visit, he gets a new knife. I usually end up with my bamboo wind chimes and the youngest one wants one of everything!
