Let's Go Sail Virginia

Few people get out on the water these days, and fewer still get to sail a modern sailboat. Here is the single-most unique activity in Williamsburg, where guests get to run the helm or just relax on the water. They get to enjoy an optional talk on the two battles that ended the American Revolutionary War. Sometimes they get to see US Navy ships transiting Yorktown.

This was a great tour for our family of four. We didn’t want some cattle herd tour, and the small size and personal touch was great.

My 19 year old son and a friend took the sailing course with Mr. ODonovan. They had a great sail, and learned a lot, including sailing techniques, safety etc. I think this will inspire them to continue with the sport. I highly recommend this opportunity for anyone interested in learning how to sail!

On March 30, 2021, my wife , sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and I celebrated our respective wedding anniversaries by sailing the York River with CAPT Bill. What a wonderful few hours on the water. My wife, sister, and brother-in-law had never gone sailing. My last sailing excursion was in 1987 on Kaneohe Bay in Hawaii. I thought that I would surprise my wife of 42 years with something different . Boy was she surprised! It was a very breezy day so there was plenty of wind for the sails. CAPT Bill's many years of experience was quite apparent by the way he handled the sailboat. He expertly narrated many of the sights that were visible. The real bonus was seeing a U.S.Navy submarine berthed at the Yorktown Naval Station. It was a little chilly but we were dressed appropriately. If sailing does not relieve your stress or lower your blood pressure, there is no hope for you. If you want a few hours of respite from the constant shrill of bad and depressing news from television and the internet, I highly recommend sailing on Williamsburg Charter Sails. You will not be disappointed! Bruce E. Fuller, M.D.

This was one of my highlight experiences while living in Virginia. We went sailing with Captain Bill in 2019 (though I can't select that far back when leaving this review). We were a group of 6-- two couples and two friends—and had no experience sailing. It was a cold day, but Captain Bill brought extra clothes to keep us warm (since we hadn't prepared appropriately ourselves…). We enjoyed being out on the water, and Captain Bill answered any questions we could think of while letting us to help with sailing. I'm sure my group would happily go out again, and we recommend this to anyone visiting the Williamsburg area. A+++
