Founded in 2014, we are located near the heart of the beautiful Colonial Williamsburg. Formerly, Williamsburg Distillery, 8 Shires Distillery is a small craft distillery in the Historic Triangle of Williamsburg Virginia. Our mission at 8 Shires Distillery is to research, preserve, teach, and present the history of distillation from the Colonial American Period, the years 1600 – 1775. Our spirits are hand-crafted using historic recipes and ingredients of the 18th century. Take a gander to our website for more information on tastings, tours and how to obtain your very own bottle. We currently offer: Genever Gin Silver Rum Gold Rum *The next release of Bourbon will be 2019 *

Tucker is the Man. Must go to place.
Came for the booze, stayed for the conversation. We stopped by on a Thursday afternoon around 6. We were the only ones in the distillery at the time and started talking with Tucker. Great guy and very knowledgeable on the history of the area as well as the distilling process. Definitely loved the atmosphere of the place and the way they tie in the history of the area with their distilling process. Prices were very fair even though we couldn’t afford the one we wanted. ($1200 for their special 1608 bottle. Man did we want it bad too). Definitely a must to stop in and visit. Can’t say enough good things about it or Tucker.

    You should visit!!!!
This was a wonderful place to drop in! It unexpectedly became one of our favorite places in Williamsburg, VA! My husband and I always look for interesting places we can’t find anywhere else. Tucker is the manager here and was insightful with any questions we had and added even more helpful information. Their love for historical ways to distill was fascinating! It is worth the trip and truly one of the best we have ever been to! Highly suggest and will love to go back.

    Make this a stop!
The explanation of the behind-the-scenes work is really in depth. It is great seeing both the old and new equipment. As mentioned by others, the best part is the AMAZING hospitality! We stayed for drinks and had the charcuterie board. We had a great time with the gentlemen. I will definitely be back, especially for the gin!

This is a very unique distillery! They make their spirits as close to the original as possible. They offer tours and have tastings. The girl that waited on us gave us great information on all of the spirits.

Friendly - overfriendly? - staff. They were happy to take us on a tour, which was fun. It was explained repeatedly that the owner strives for authenticity in all cases. The explanation at the bar of the various spirits was fun, and you get a small taste of a clear one. Then we ordered drinks. I ordered the apple cider and spiced rum. I watched the server mix up "apple juice" with water and a powder in a pitcher, which he then mixed with ice and spiced rum. It was watery and not good. I can't believe that powdered apple juice mix is authentic to 17/18th Century Williamsburg. If the owner strives for authenticity, certainly there has to be better apple juice.

We stumbled across this place while shopping in Williamsburg, the rums are probably the best product they have, the Barstaff we had was relatively new but still knew enough about their product to be enjoyable. I tried many of their products, the only downside was that the distiller wasn't in that day and I wasn't able to get a tour, but I will definitely be back on another day to check out a tour and talk to the Distiller. They are a small distillery and run small batches. Also there is a fair amount of history on the walls.

We were looking forward to visiting the 8 Shires Coloniale Distillery to take a tour and see how spirits were made in colonial times. When we arrived a young woman greeted us and told us to take a seat at the bar or one of the tables. She then began talking about the various rums available and offered us a free sample before we had an opportunity to purchase more. When we asked about the tour she said that they were too busy in the distillery that day and there wouldn't be a tour. Since that was the whole reason for our visit to 8 Shires, we told her that was the reason we came, thanked her and left. Leasson learned... CALL ahead so you won't be disappointed.

We went here to just try it. The first sample was a little harsh. We liked the gold rum but hated the gin. The staff was super friendly which is why they get a 3 and it was very educational.

I really enjoyed my experience visiting this distillery. It doesn't look like much from the road, but once inside it's a cozy, intimate environment to try a number of liquors as they would have been made during the Colonial period, as well as to learn all about the history of alcohol during this time period. The distiller goes to great lengths to research the process and use only historically accurate ingredients and procedures...much of which is not being done anywhere else. Definitely a unique experience! Tracy was extremely hospitable and a great storyteller, keeping us engaged in learning numerous facets of the role of alcohol in Colonial times. We got to sample one of the liquors for free, then ended up purchasing a flight of several others to try. It sounds as though this distillery is outgrowing its current space and I look forward to hearing about its success in future endeavors.

The knowledge and history of their product is superb. Wonderful experience and lovely, quant tasting room. Staff was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and hospitable. I was little disappointed in the distillery as it was simply the operations, nothing decorative or showy, rather small, and the packaging and shelving out in the open. I think the distillery should have kept the old time feel for the public and maybe the business operations "behind the curtain"

My family and I visited the distrillary on Saturday. I myself am not a big liquor person (as wine is my go to) however my husband really enjoyed the rum and gin. The samples were free and then we purchase a flight to share. The owner gave us a great history lesson and took us on a tour of the distillary. His wife and their friend were very friendly and treated us like we were a part of the family. Since my son and daughter were not with us when we visited, we would return in order for them to get the experience.

Awesome people and great booze! Ask for a tour and you’ll learn about how President Washington made whiskey. They show you how it’s done.

Another hidden gem for Bourbon Connoisseurs. A little hard to find but definitely worth it. Their whiskey is good but the rum is even better. Highly Recommend!!!
