8 Chains North is a family-owned and -operated farm winery located in the town of Waterford in picturesque Loudoun County, Virginia. Owner and Winegrower Ben Renshaw's careful attention to viticulture reveals itself in our old-world-style wines -- rich, dry reds with supple tannins, and crisp, dry whites with lovely acidity. Come visit us in our spacious, comfortable Tasting Room and enjoy two tasting options -- wines only, or wines paired with handcrafted chocolate truffles. Take a seat on the patio overlooking the vineyard, or in cooler weather, warm up by the fireplace inside. We offer a lite fare menu or you may bring your own picnic. We welcome groups with advance reservations and can accommodate limos and buses (no party buses allowed.) 8 Chains North is pleased to welcome your well-behaved children and dogs.

This was my third winery of the day and I have to say they had good wine. I appeared to be the first visit of the day and Emily (I think that was her name) took good care of me. None of the wines were too overpowering save one that was super woodsy which I had to dumb. The tasting... More

The best of three vineyards we visited on this trip. All were good but the combination of the wine, the view and the general atmosphere made 8 Chains North the best. We bought several bottles of wine.

I visited this winery with family and had Katie as our wine tasting associate. The wine was flavorful to taste and exactly as described during the tasting. It had a good boost of alcohol content. The back view of the vineyards and hills was beautiful and the outdoor patio seating was perfect for a pre-fall Saturday afternoon. There were lots... More

Back in the States for a few months prior to returning to Europe, and thought we might experience some local wineries. This one is about an hour outside Washington, DC and is a half hour from Dulles Airport. Please keep in mind that locally produced wine in the States is significantly more costly than purchasing good wine in Spain, France... More

Not what I expected given the reviews. Poor experience. Understaffed, inexperienced and snotty management. Don't bother to go here, there are many more compelling tasting rooms in Loudoun County and most just a stones throw away.

The reviewer and her husband joined our wine club in February, agreeing to a year-long membership. The reviewer and her husband visited us twice since then to pick up their wines and spent several hours at the winery on each occasion. In all, they have purchased 11 bottles from us. In June, the reviewer left our property with a glass... More

This is the place!! Fenced in dog area out back. Yes you read correctly! A winery where they let your four legged friend hang off-leash while you drink great wine overlooking the mountains. They have live music inside which dogs are allowed in too. Very beautiful, very friendly, very enjoyable!

Wine is very good, tasting service was a bit robotic but nice. The porch out back has a great view and they have a separate large fenced area dog area where you can sit and enjoy your wine while your dog runs free.

The name was interesting, so we stopped. The wine steward explained the reason for the name during the wine tasting. Good wines. Nice relaxing place. Dog friendly in that there is a enclosed area for people to take their dogs. The wine bottle weather vane with the back drop of the wine field and greenery was beautiful.

I love that this place is so close to DC. The wine was great and we were able to taste a variety of whites and reds. Next time I will try the chocolate wine pairing for a small additional fee.

My husband and I visit Virginia Wineries on a regular basis. We've been everywhere, but "8 Chains North" was the one we chose for my husband's 60th BD celebration. Everything is just perfect here. Historical background, good wines, nice banquet room, patio with a beautiful scenery, excellent service, and all of that for a very reasonable price. We had 40... More
