good walk on a windy day
Jul 2020
The wood is a great place to walk especially in windy weather as it brings the trees to life. Paths were in good condition despite the recent rain. Lovely walk.
Its easy to get lost - some direction signs would be very welcome!

Out with. Dogs for walk
Aug 2019
We went into woods with dogs & granddaughter they loved it if a little muddy in places. Granddaughter loved playing with sticks & leaves seem g them float. We only live short distance so didn't need to take car but plenty of car parks. You can see the squirrels up in the tree's if you stand still & are quiet which only happened once as granddaughter is only 5. Nice stoll dogs had good time.

Canny little walk
Sep 2018 • Family
Walked through with my partner, 7 year old and dog. We had a lovely walk but wasn't the best for my 7 year old as their wasn't much for her to interact with. There's a lovely wooden carving at the end which is beautiful. We looked for conker trees and different types of wildlife which was lovely too.

Lovely stroll around

I brought my children and met my best friend with her children. Fab way for the kids to burn off energy. Different routes depending on how far you want to walk. A few more picnic areas wouldn’t go amiss and a small cafe in car park would definitely do some good business with dog walkers etc.

Just go. Get in the car now and go. If you have a dog put it in the car and go. If you have kids put them in the car and go.

Lovely forest walk
Apr 2017 • Family
I've lived in the NE all my life, and can't believe I've never been here before. Decent size, free car park, and large map explaining the 4 or 5 walks. We went for the red walk, well signposted and took approx 90 minutes.
Beautiful woods, with lovely views across valleys and the river.
Kept a good look out for the Red Kites, but never seen one, until the drive home 😒.

To make this a 5 star location and day out, the national trust should build a cafe and toilet facilities.

Day out
Oct 2016 • Couples
I have lived in the north east my entire ife and used to go through chopwell wood every weekend with my aunt and uncle and their dogs as they live nearby, however it is years since I have been, hubby and I decided to go for a walk and choose here. It has changed so much but in a good way it is more accessible to everyone and with different coloured walks and free maps makes it easier to explore if you are not from the area. Also having a dedicated mountain bike route I feel is a good idea, why should the cyclists not be allowed to enjoy the rough tracks through the woods :). We'll definitely be visiting again

Lovely dog walks

Lovely woods to walk dogs. Parking area, no facilities. Pathways you can follow or you can explore. Look out for the beautiful wood carvings!
