Overview
More
The Lynnhaven House is a fine example of early Virginia vernacular architecture. It reflects the social and economic status of Francis Thelaball, a middling plantation owner who built it for his family. Architectural and design details including brick jack arches, a closed-spindle staircase with teardrop pendant, and ship's lap floor construction reveal a builder concerned with quality as well as artistry. Today the Lynnhaven House is furnished as a historic house museum to interpret the period Francis Thelaball and his family lived there, from 1725 to 1727. Guided tours discuss the roles of the household members--Francis, his wife Abigail, their five sons, an apprentice, and several enslaved people--as well as the Tidewater world of the early 18th century.

These places are all about the tour guide. In our case she was exceptional - had plenty of great facts and fun stories. Especially a ghost story about the on site graveyard! This was the 2nd of 3 homes we toured for the ticket price....More

Very interesting tour. Check this one out with two other homes in the area. Take advantage of getting pass for the 3 houses instead of paying for admission at each one. Staff was very informative.

Although this restaurant is a bit pricey it is worth the money. All the menu items are excellent. Their she crab soup is the best in Hampton Roads. It is served with a side of sherry and even us non-drinkers love the extra touch.

Famous seafood house. Really nice waterfront location and good serving staff. My seafood was overcooked and nothing special.

We did the trio of historic homes which were: Lynnhaven, Francis Land and Adam Thoroughgood. If you love stepping into the past circa early 1700's and one is early 1800's it will be a treat. The tours were educational and fun. The grounds had their...More

I do not think they sell them in advance (by phone call or online). However, when you go to the first site they will offer you the three tour package and can pay for it right there. Just make certain by the hours listed... More
