Nice Little Art Museum
Feb 2021
This is a nice little art museum and it was free when we went. They have an interesting exhibit on food. The worker at the front desk made my girlfriend very happy by giving her a magnet since there isn't a gift shop. Good spot to spend a little free time during the day,

Nice little art museum
Feb 2021
Quiet because of COVID and off season, however, they had a well thought out and interesting special themed exhibit.

Closed mid-day for wedding rehearsal
Sep 2020 • Couples
Bummer! Drive over 20 miles to visit. Relied on posted hours on their website. At 1:00 p.m. on a Friday afternoon we arrived to see a sign on the front door saying they were closed due to a wedding rehearsal. Website and Google said they were open till 3:00. Who closes during regular business hours for a wedding rehearsal? Why not rehearse at 3:00 after regular hours? Last time I will try to visit and will withhold any donations to this organization.

Crappy Exhibition
Aug 2020 • Friends
Thankfully the Museum didn’t charge an admission! It was one of the biggest let-downs of my trip. The exhibition was pure, unadulterated crap. I was not alone in my opinion, my friends also viewed the museum exhibition the save way. Ugh!

the exhibits didn't really wow me
Nov 2019
At the time of our visit they really didn't have any contemporary art that wowed me. I also couldn't really understand their space exhibit that was more like a science/history museum than art museum. However, the people were very nice and the exhibits were well displayed. It also wasn't as large as it looked from the outside. One of the most interesting displays was a mirror you could stand in front of and you could watch smoke come out of your eyes. I did like the outside sculptures and there is also a short boardwalk/paved walking trail through the woods that was nice even though there wasn't much to see. There was a lot of Phragmites along the trail but I didn't know if they were the native type or the invasive type. I love these plants when the sun shines through them. If you are picky about your contemporary art like I am I would highly recommend calling or checking their website to see what traveling exhibits they have on the day you want to visit.

Interactive Experience
Dec 2019 • Friends
The current exhibits at MOCA are so intriguing and interactive. From the space exhibit to those that play with sound and movement as a way to create art was awesome!

Nice Museum
Nov 2019 • Solo
I like art museums but I'm not a big fan of contemporary art. But the exhibition of Michael Kagan, a Virginia Beach native, very interesting. According to the summary of his work, he's a big fan of the beginning of space travel in the United States. His artwork is amazing.

Cool Exhibits
Nov 2019
The museum had some really cool exhibits when I visited but it's a very small gallery. I do think it's worth visiting but you don't need to budget much time for your trip.

Disappointing
Oct 2019
This is a very small museum. We visited again this year thinking things might be different. Once more, only two artists were featured. Chihuly is great but there is only one of his works. There was an inspiring exhibit of student and handicapped artists open to the public in a side room. My advice is not to pay the fee here, just skip this one and go to the large art museum in Richmond, with far more galleries and selections.

Lovely visit
Jul 2019 • Family
1st visit to MOCA even though we come to Virginia Beach every summer. Loved looking at the New Waves exhibit! Our favorite was the Chihuly glass.
