The Boardwalk was nicely done with the width of the boardwalk, and shear beauty of the beach. There is a bike path just to your east with landscaping between you on the boardwalk, and the bike path. Having a separate bike path is nice because you don't have to worry about getting hit by a bicycle. Almost every hotel has a restaurant that you can get breakfast lunch ,and dinner at. Many restaurants have an outdoor porch that you can dine at with a view. The Boardwalk has a number of sculptors that you can look at. It was a great place. Don't be shy about seeing Virginia Beach, and walking the Boardwalk in the off season either. It does get chilly in the winter, and you may need a coat, but you can do whale watching for just 35 dollars per person for a two hour to three hour trip out to see whales, and you can do horse back riding on the beach in the winter, but not in the summer.

Parking
Depending on where you park you will pay $10-$25 for the day. We pulled into one that was charging $25 and we decided to keep looking. The attendant was kind enough to tell us that there is public parking for much cheaper. It is further back from the beach but it was only $10 and not much of a walk.

Shops/Food
There are a lot of souvenir shops and restaurants on the strip one block from the beach. There are multiple Sunsation stores where I highly recommend visiting to get beach gear before you hit the beach.
The places on the beach are ones with priceless menus. A block off the beach though there were plenty of places. We saw people with pizzas and ended up going to 204 Pizza. Their staff was great and their pizza was very tasty.

Beach
It was easy to find a place on the beach to sit. We didn’t leave our stuff alone so I can’t speak on the safety but the beach was fun (water cold) and it was very relaxing. There’s a King triton statue at one end that was neat to see.

Hotels: The decent hotels run $400+ a night. We decided to go to the next town and all the hotels from Virginia Beach all through Delaware were sold out. So be prepared.

The VA Boardwalk is worth going out of your way to see. A broad 3-mile'ish concrete Boardwalk with a separate paved bike path. Lots of benches for sitting and people watching. Hoards of hotels right on the boardwalk and many many other shops and restaurants just one block off the Boardwalk. Prepare for Boardwalk pricing if you decide to eat or drink. I think our bill for 2 single scoops of ice cream came to just under $15 at B&J's.

The Boardwalk is a wide, paved walkway beside the ocean. It runs for 39 blocks, from first to 39th street and has an adjacent bike path. It's great for people and dolphin watching and is landscaped with gardens and sculptures plus there are numerous restaurants and bars.

From June through September, there are many outdoor free concerts along the way plus many bars have their entertainer in their outdoor patio so you can just sit on a bench and listen as you wish.

On summer weekends and special events, there are free concerts at 5th ,17th , 24 th and 31st streets . Plan to spend hours enjoying the Boardwalk

Lots of nice shops and restaurants but most located on the two streets parallel to the boardwalk. Plenty of entertainment singers street performers karaoke provided by the city and some random people. The kids loved the arcade. If you like people watching this is your place. Quite the variety. I did see some homeless people and smelled pot quite often. I never felt unsafe but we didn’t stay past 9 pm either. Virginia Beach is a unique place. The boardwalk area isn’t for everyone but there’s other places in the city that’s like any other beach town without a boardwalk. Tons of stuff to do in the area.

Living minutes away from the Jersey Shore, I'm used to a boardwalk. The boardwalk here is actually a 28' wide concrete walkway, with an adjacent bike path. Nothing bad about it, just different.

There are a number of parks along the three mile length, and on any given night there may be a band playing or other performances. There is also a "movie on the beach" on Wednesday nights during the summer at the boardwalk and 29th street. Sadly, the one we went to watch (live action Aladdin) ended up ending after about half an hour due to a thunderstorm that popped up

This is a really nice boardwalk. There are only hotels and restaurants next to the boardwalk and typical tourist traps (food, ice cream, souvenirs) are one block away. You have to make a deliberate effort to get yourself into an environment where the kids start nagging to enter every single store to buy useless stuff. That makes it easier to walk up and down the boardwalk, enjoy the views and the breeze. I highly recommend waking up early to see the dolphins and the sunrise.

We went over spring break-maybe it was a bad time of year. There were young adults riding skateboards with giant speakers on their back. Their were also ppl promoting their religion with large signs .... that was unexpected?

The boardwalk is comfortable to walk and it's well kept. Some interesting statues and museums are found on it and make it more interesting. Access to the street is easy. Bycicles have their own path and willnot interfere with walkers and joggers.

We visited the beach on the Friday before the 4th of July, and surprisingly it was not overly crowded. No problem with parking, helpful workers pointed us to public restrooms. It was very hot and the sand was almost burning our feet, so make sure to bring closed shoes. The only thing we didn't know was that you had to pay to go on the pier, which was disappointing because that was the only reason we parked by the pier. Not worth it for us to spend 5 minutes walking to the end and back. Plenty of room on the beach to spread out and the water was very nice. Well maintained beach. Liked that it is mostly public beach and the hotels don't own and restrict beach access like in other beachside towns. Definitely would visit again.
