Tarnished Truth Distilling Co. is the country’s first and only craft distillery operating within a working luxury hotel. This is a fun, adult, non-beach activity in Virginia Beach. I have taken friends several times and it has always been a fun and informative experience. A little knowledge, a little history, a little taste! I highly recommend going upstairs and having a drink in the bar that encompasses the hallway, have a smoked bourbon or try one of their canned cocktails that are for sale in the area. Alternatively, if you can make the schedule to enjoy happy hour in the Hunt Club (adjacent to the distillery) that is also nice. The Cavalier is a beautiful historic hotel with several dining venues so lunch before or dinner after is also another thing you could do while there.

The Tarnished Truth Distillery was a wonderful experience. It starts off a little cramped as everyone meets in their gift shop, but begins to widen up a bit as you begin the tour through the distillery. It's a fairly short tour as the distillery is smaller, but the tasting event of the tour is wonderful. It was a pleasure to be able to try their products, and their tasting room was beautiful. The Old Cavalier Bourbon Cream is an absolute treat and I'm excited to purchase this for my next bottle of Tarnished Truth product. My tour gifted a Tarnished Truth branded Glencairn Glass. Ari, our tour guide, was phenomenal and well knowledgeable about the Cavalier and Distillery. All around great way to spend $20 and an hour of your day.

We attended the tour and tasting. Carrington was our hostess. She was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the history of this young distillery. It is housed in the lower level of the renowned Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach. We were not able to enter the area with all the tanks and equipment because they were preparing to fill bottles that day. There was fragrant steam rising as the men busied themselves with the preparations! The tasting room was spacious, attractive and comfortable and Carrington seemed well-informed about the varieties of bourbon, vodka and gin that we tasted. Of course we had opportunity to make purchases at the end, and we did! We also explored the main level of this grand old hotel and enjoyed a nice cocktail in the lounge before we left. A nice afternoon.

Our tour guide was very knowledgable about the distilling processing. It was great to learning how they distilled the liquors as well as bottled. The room with the tastings was amazing, though it felt the actual tasting portion was rushed to go stand in a busy restaurant during dinner hour. It would have been a nicer experience if we would have heard the stories of the Hunt Room while spending more time sipping the whiskey tastings.

We had an excellent experience both during the tour and the tasting! Our group from out of town greatly enjoyed learning about the distillery and then getting to taste the products we had just learned about. The tour was informative, fun and just an all-around great experience for everyone. We did it as a part of our wedding week at the Cavalier and highly encourage anyone getting married at the hotel, to build the experience in for their guests!

It's rare to find a company that puts out a high quality product and has employees who clearly have a deep passion for what they do. This is exactly what you find at Tarnished Truth distillery. The tour was nice and the distillery looks like a distillery as it should but it was when you stepped into the tasting room that you truly appreciate their operation. The detail and passion each drink is described with makes you appreciate bourbon even if you aren't an everyday or anyday bourbon drinker. On top of that Tarnished Truth offers a very delicious gin and bourbon cream to appeal to non bourbon drinkers.
What started as an hour filler on our vacation became a memory that we will talk of for years to come. If you have the time it is definitely worth it to check out and if you don't have the time it is still worth it to check out.

The distillery tour was an excellent experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable. She was able to answer any of our questions and provide insight on how the process worked.
The tasting was a great experience as well. Everyone there made us feel like family and made the tasting much more enjoyable.
If you’re a fan of bourbon you should book a tasting or try their bourbon! My girlfriend doesn’t even drink bourbon and she loved it!

A buddy and I did a tour and tasting of Tarnished Truth Distilling and really enjoyed it! It’s a short tour, took us about 30 mins, so it’s perfect if you have some time to kill before lunch/dinner or have plans later. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaging and the spirits were wonderful. We were super impressed that the staff is able to produce so much with their limited space and resources. It makes you appreciate every sip even more. I would highly recommend giving the folks at Tarnished Truth a visit!

I enjoyed the tour and tasting! I liked going behind the scenes, listening to this small team's story and seeing the big machines. Our guide was very informative and upbeat. She did a great job engaging us, and I really enjoyed the tasting - not only the whiskey itself but also listening to each one's background.

Carrington led our tour and she was extremely knowledgeable! Articulate, engaging, personable…..
She was an absolute joy as she walked us through the process while also making us laugh. We were so impressed with this tour! She was able to influence a life long old fashioned drinker into a totally new way of preparing his favorite drink! The tasting room was a wonderful experience. We will certainly return to this place!
