My friend didn't want to go because the last time she went the water was rough and no whales were sighted. This trip was the complete opposite! We arrived about a half an hour early exchanged our computer printouts for tickets inside the office and boarded the 65 foot boat. We went up to the top deck and sat next to the captain's helm. The water was unusually calm and the weather was very warm for a December day. On the way past the jetties we saw dolphins but we kept going to go out to attempt to see whales. In about 15 minutes we were told that there was a naval research boat that cited to juvenile humpback whales so our boat and two other boats headed in that direction. The captain and crew were very aware to not disturb the whales. Our sister boat got too close to the whales and the captain appeared to contact them via radio and let them know to back off. We did see the blow from the two juvenile whales, approximately 35 feet long, as they breached the water together. Then we saw their backs and one of them even showed us it's tail repeatedly. My friend who was skeptical was very excited as was I. She got great pictures. We saw the whales six or seven times and then headed back to dock. The boat was very clean the crew was very knowledgeable and even though it got very cold on the water we had the option of going into the heated cabin on the lower deck. It was too exciting so we stayed above. At one point as we're waiting for the whales to breach again they came up directly in front of the bow which surprised everyone. I would do this again in a heartbeat. I found a coupon online for $3 off so the trip was $25 per person. A great experience!

You want to come to Virginia Beach during the off season December, January, and February just to go on the Whale watching Tour that Rudee Tours gives:)) My wife Maria, and I went to Virginia Beach the day after Christmas. We saw Whale watching advertised, and were surprised that you can see Whales in Virginia Beach. We found out that Whales migrate South for the Winter so you can only see the Whales at Virginia Beach during the months of December, January, and February. We wanted a full wildlife Tour, but that was sold out all three days that we were going to be there. They only had a few slots left of the Whale watching tour which is a two hour tour. We definitely got what we paid for. It was only 35 dollars each so 70 dollars for the two of us. There was others on the boat as well. We had to go out 16 miles that day to get to where the whales were. The whales were so beautiful to see them jump out of the water making a huge splash. The staff was very knowledgeable about Whales, and the different kinds of whales that one can see off the shores of Virginia Beach. The tour was fun, and very educational. This is an excellent thing to do for families, and to take kids. It may be warmer, but it can get very chilly out there on the Atlantic Ocean so make sure that you dress warmly for the tour. This is a must see. Commercialization is all the same no matter where you go, but nature is different from region to region so you don't want to miss out on this tour.

I've lived on the OBX of Nc my entire life, seen a few whales in the distance and occasionally when offshore fishing, but never went out searching for any. Booked an afternoon trip with Rudee Tours, The price can't be beat, the weather was great, sky was a little overcast but no wind, seas were very calm and the temperature was not bad either. Boat headed out and we immediately met a big pod of dolphins, road a while more and the likelihood of seeing a whale in this vast ocean was seeming to fade, but then the gal who had been making announcements about various sea life we had seen came on the intercom with a " Thar she blows" sure enough the captain and crew had found a humpback. We watched her for a bit and the captain maneuvered the boat so everyone could get a view. A very fun , very reasonably priced trip, gonna be cold on the water so you better bundle up, the boat has a nice heated cabin and a snack bar area full of goodies. Crew was great and its almost impossible not to get caught up in the excitement of seeing these great creatures in their natural habitat. Great job Rudee Tours, we are likely to do this again!!

Their website mentions the safety procedures put in place due to covid but I did not feel covid safe at all. There’s no social distancing. They had tape on the railings to note 6 ft distances but do not enforce them at all. They also do not enforce mask wearing on the outside viewing areas. A lot of ppl were not wearing masks! We had several ppl siting right next to us with no mask on! We asked 2 groups to put masks on and one guy moved somewhere else and the other couple just sat there and refused even though there was less than 2 ft separating us. Even one of the staff members didn’t have a mask on and was walking all around the boat. The dolphin watching was amazing though! We saw tons of dolphins so when it comes to dolphin watching, the trip did not disappoint. If you’re okay with being around folks not wearing masks or social distancing on the outside viewing areas of the boat, then I’d recommend. If not, do not do it!...I wouldn’t have.

The crew was fantastic and helpful the boat was nice and clean, my negative review is because it seemed a little steep to pay over $400 for 5 people to fish for less than 2 hours total. Took the 3/4 day trip and spent the majority of the 6 hours riding around from one spot to another. Fishing requires a little patience and it felt like our lines barely got wet before it would be a “short ride” (30-40 minutes) to the next place. When people pay to fish they usually want to fish even if they aren’t catching anything. Next time I’ll just take my out of town guests to the local pier. Only came back because last year we did the half day and spent a way larger percentage of the time actually fishing.

We went to see some whales on Friday, January 31st. It was cold, but we made sure to wrap up real good. We were't sure if we were gonna see a whale as we drove forever. Then out of nowhere, a whale breached the water and it was on! We watched two humpback whales do their thing for around thirty minutes. It was awesome seeing these huge creatures in real life. This trip is definitely worth the money!!

Our big family group did the 1.5 hour regular dolphin tour. We watched dolphins just outside the inlet for a bit, and then the captain sped up so the dolphins would play in the wake. It was so cool! The boat itself was nice and big, with a lower and upper deck, and there’s an air conditioned cabin where you can buy drinks/snacks. The staff on the intercom told us dolphin facts and pointed out which side of the boat the dolphins were on, so no one would miss them. I wasn’t sure if we’d just see dolphins in the distance, but they were jumping and twirling right by the boat! This dolphin tour exceeded my expectations. Thanks!

Drove all the way from Ohio and went to the booth to get 2 tickets for a dolphin watch tour and was told you have to go online to buy a ticket we do not pay or order anything off the computer been ripped off to many times kids wher heart broken thanks rudee tours for ruining a nice family vacation will not go back and telling all are friends and relatives not to go here. Found a better boat ride that accept payment at boarding. Its ridiculous they have a booth right there in the parking lot. With someone always in it. They are to lazy to go to the bank and make a deposit.

Disappointed... the best I can say.

Watch out if you get gifts certificate from this company.

As a result of several attempts to reserve the whale watch tours (some of which were cancelled due to weather, which we understand), they decided to reimburse the credit card (I specifically told them I did not want that, the tickets were given to us as gifts).

Unfortunately, that card is now closed, and we are not able to get our tickets back. And no way to find the money...
DO NOT buy gift certificates from them!

Great tour! Plenty of room on the boat for distancing etc and still see the dolphins. Capable and knowledgeable crew. Interesting narration telling about dolphin habits, habitat, etc made this an educational tour - a bonus because we expected to simply see the dolphins. Of course, the dolphins did not disappoint....
