My family and I have been going here for years. This trip was horrible. At the office we checked in with Ms. Joanne and she was very pleasant. My sister asked her about directions to a movie theater, as Ms. Joanne started to explain to us this younger girl comes from the back and interrupts her and begins talking to... More

Virginia has some of the best state parks in the US. We visited this state park in our travel trailer for 3 nights. The sites are wonderful and the walking trails and facilities are very nice. This park also has a beach area off a great inlet on Lake Anna. The beach area is clean and the entry area is... More

Not sure why some folks are disgruntled with this place! I have camped in plenty of state parks in the North East (NY, NJ, MA & PA) and for a state park, Lake Anna is by far the best one I have visited! (Maybe my bar is set low but...) We rented a bunk bed cabin (aka camper cabin for... More

My wife and I made the mistake of vising Lake Anna State Park on Saturday, July 9th, and based on our experience we will not be returning to this park. Upon our arrival around 9:20 am we were charged $7.00 at the park entrance. I knew I had to pay this amount but was disappointed that the Virginia State Park... More

Lake Anna State Park has terrific recreational opportunities that range from a wide supervised beach, several picnic areas, horse and hiking trails, and plenty of open (and wooded) space. The staff conducts educational programs that range from typical nature related programs to gold mining.

We went for 4th of July weekend expecting it to be super noisy and crowded. The beach is a maze of barbecues and hammocks. Crazy crowded. The water is pretty opaque and floating twigs, plus jet skis. Not the cleanest. The campground is well spaced out. You can have privacy. Quiet hours aren't really respected, though, since we asked about... More

I am so sorry you had a bad experience at Lake Anna State Park. We have emergency numbers posted in multiple locations in the park so I am sorry you didn't have the number to call when the campground got noisy or to report the water problem. We had a water system failure over the 4th of July weekend but... More

We visited the park in June. It was very hot but beautiful. The park officials were extremely pleasant. We traveled in two cars and did not know if we really wanted to spend the time there. The ranger at the entrance allowed us to tour the area without paying the entry fee. I was so surprised that they allowed this.... More

I am glad you enjoyed your visit to Lake Anna State Park. You will have to come back some time when you can stay longer. For prospective visitors: We actually have a parking fee so if you don't park you don't really have to pay. Some parks collect and refund on the way out and Lake Anna would need to... More

We camped for 2+ nights at the Lake Anna State park campground, family of 4 (kids 7 and 4). I'm giving this a Very Good rating for the amount of family-friendly and more adventurous activities accessible from the campgrounds. The campgrounds are fine, plenty of room, there are choices of standard, or electric/water hook ups, or small cabin. The sites... More

Thank you for sharing this review of your visit to Lake Anna State Park. Your description and tips are spot on and will give potential visitors a lot of tips. You are exactly right, this park is really packed on the weekends at the beach but more quieter during the week. More

We have enjoyed Lake Anna State Park for the last two summers and it never disappoints! Clean campsites, restrooms/shower facilities and friendly staff. The Lake is a lot of fun, we usually spend most of the day playing in the water, building sand castles and enjoying lunch on the beach. There is only one camp store to service the entire... More
