Charming, casual stop, beautiful scenery
Jul 2021
We stopped here for a wine tasting while vacationing at a rental property nearby. The owner was very friendly and accommodating, and informative without being condescending. The wines were quite good, and we purchased several bottles for ourselves and as gifts for friends back home. We also discussed local sights, hikes, and restaurants, so it was a very pleasant visit. There are tables outside where you can relax with a glass or bottle, and they have cheeses, crackers, and snacks available to purchase as well. Highly recommend a stop to this small, charming winery!

Peaceful cottage, perfect retreat from cities
May 2021
We hiked Shenandoah National Park and stayed in the 1790 Cottage for a night.

The host, Jimm, is very friendly and helpful. The cottage was comfortable for a family of 4, and the place was peaceful with mountains, creek. A great retreat from noisy cities. Did I mention the breakfast is delicious?

Nice old school wine tasting
Mar 2021
We have visited this winery twice over the years. We always find the wines to be very drinkable. The wine maker/owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. We bought 1 of each of the available wines for sale. Tasting room is upstairs in an old barn. Very unique! We always have a nice visit at the winery, and it is very different from the commercial properties, more rural and rustic, with good wine! We will return when we visit the area again!

Five stars for wine, scenery, and roadside assistance
Oct 2020
The hospitality at Sharp Rock Vineyards is excellent. After a 10 mile hike, my friends and I headed to SRV for a cold glass of wine. The red Synergy was a perfect reward and cool down. The cabernet sauvignon is lighter than some and great for pairing with food.

More importantly, when my car broke down, Jim not only tried to help diagnose the problem and jump the car, he lent me his landline phone to make calls, and then was a fantastic host to stranded guests sitting on the porch well beyond closing time. Five stars for wine, scenery, and roadside assistance.

Old Rag September 2020
Sep 2020
We love staying at Sharp Rock Vineyards in Sperryville, VA. The host Jim is friendly and very knowledgeable about local places to go and things to do. We have stayed there a few times and plan on returning. The wine, conversation and comfortable lodging keeps us coming back . The homemade muffins are delicious and the fresh fruit is wonderful. This year we stayed at the Carriage House and it was so charming. It was great to hike "Old Rag" and come back to the Carriage House and relax with a glass of wine.

Charming B&B / Winery
Aug 2020
Sharp Rock Vineyards is one of the most charming places I’ve ever stayed at. The 1790’s Cottage is gorgeous — I couldn't stop taking pictures and commenting on the oak floors, the rustic furniture & the old-fashioned sinks. Our host was wonderful - welcoming, accommodating, and a great conversationalist - we were lucky enough to have our wine-tasting with him. The wine was delicious, one of the best tastings we’ve ever had. We went with a Chardonnay Reserve — perfect for a summer’s day! We had a lovely dinner on the porch, followed by a walk to the river and through the vineyard. We also had the pleasure of meeting Dock (a Bernese Mountain dog), Ray (a Norwegian Forest cat), and two free-roaming chickens that tipped the scale from charming to beyond charming. If you’re looking to hike Old Rag, Sharp Rock Vineyards is the perfect place to stay. We got up early on Sunday, ate a delicious breakfast (freshly-baked muffins, fruit salad, and yogurt), drove five-minutes to outflow parking & began our hike.

A Vineyard Haven in the Shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains

We stayed at the Carriage House for three nights. On arrival, we enjoyed a tasting of Sharp Rock's excellent wines (Old Rag red and the Chardonnay are particularly good). The Carriage House is comfortable and quiet, with a porch where you can spend hours looking out over the Hughes River and relaxing. The delicious and generous breakfast prepared every morning included fresh eggs from the chickens one sees roaming about the property, and tasty muffins. The river is cold but after a day's hike it's pleasant to soak your feet in its waters. There is a pleasant unpaved road for an hour's walk past hayfields, farms, and forestland. Deer are occasionally seen, as are rabbits. This is a good place to stay if you want to hike Old Rag Mountain, as you should arrive there early in the morning (ideally no later than eight) to get parking and avoid crowding on the trails. The Old Rag parking lot is about ten minutes' drive away. Altogether Sharp Rock is a delight for a wine-tasting visit and a true respite for a stay of two or three or more nights.
