- Christi FColumbia, South Carolina5 contributionsA place to rememberThe carriage house is a perfect place to stay while hiking Old Rag. Jim makes a delicious breakfast, and the hike itself is beautiful. The trailhead is 10 minutes away from the Carriage house. The house itself is cozy, warm, and a different experience than most Band B’s. Where else can you sip wine by the River, or have a delicious breakfast cooked for you? There is a corner shop in Sperryville with any provisions you might need. We got steaks, pots, and veggies there and cooked them on grill one nite. Sperryville also has nice brewery or two close by if interested.Visited March 2023Written March 21, 2023
- howlin12013Amelia Court House, Virginia259 contributionsThis vineyard is a GEM!My wife and I were celebrating our 44th wedding anniversary in the Luray area when we heard about this vineyard. The location is in Sperryville, a little off the beaten path set on a beautiful property along a really peaceful creek. The owner, Jim, was very welcoming and a very good host. We enjoyed talking to him and several of his other guests while tasting the wines. The wines were excellent and we also learned a lot about wine making while there. The vineyard welcoming committee, dogs Snickers and Macie, are so beautiful and so sweet, and a real treat. We enjoyed talking with Jim about rescuing and raising dogs as well. We will certainly visit this vineyard again when we are in the area. We brought home several of the wines and look forward to going back in the near future. Two thumbs up!Visited June 2023Written June 13, 2023
- MomoDeviWashington DC, District of Columbia3 contributionsWonderful stay at the foothills of Old RagSharp Rock Vineyards was the perfect base for our Central Shenandoah adventures (hikes included Old Rag, which was less than 10 minutes away; White Oak Canyon, Dark Hollow and Rose River Falls). We stayed for 4 nights in October and enjoyed the early fall colors. Jimm is a gracious host, and we enjoyed the delicious and filling hot breakfasts (freshly baked muffins, hot egg dish, and fruit) and wine tasting. We stayed in the two bedroom 1790 cottage, which was perfect for our family of 3. My daughter enjoyed reading by the fireplace in the evenings. The cottage was cozy, clean, and tastefully furnished. The property is close to downtown Sperryville, which has a handful of solid restaurants and an upscale market. There are some orchards nearby for fruit picking. We look forward to returning soon!Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 8, 2023

We hiked Shenandoah National Park and stayed in the 1790 Cottage for a night.
The host, Jimm, is very friendly and helpful. The cottage was comfortable for a family of 4, and the place was peaceful with mountains, creek. A great retreat from noisy cities. Did I mention the breakfast is delicious?

Charming and rustic farm winery and B&B in Sperryville VA. Extremely pretty and peaceful with a stream running behind the property. We stayed at the B&B and accomidations were cozy and clean. We enjoyed the delicious breakfast on the porch overlooking the stream and it was incredibly relaxing. Jimm, the winery/b&b owner and manager is extremely kind and accomodating and an amazing people person. He was filled with information for the area, and how to get to hiking spots and restaurants. Perfect host and added bonus of an adorable doggy Snickers! We had a wine tasting and very much enjoyed most of the wines. This is definitely a family run operation and you feel like family while you are there! Very easy drive to Sperryville and Washington VA - about an hour from Loudoun County VA. LIterally 5 miles to the entryway of the Old Rag trailhead. We will definitely be back!

We came here after hiking Old Rag - what a treat! Jimm met us with a wine tasting, fun stories, and dinner recommendations. We slept better than we did in ages, then woke up to a babbling brook, delicious breakfast on our private porch, and a dip in the river. The carriage house was super comfortable and had everything we needed. We were sad to leave the serenity of this place!

We love staying at Sharp Rock Vineyards in Sperryville, VA. The host Jim is friendly and very knowledgeable about local places to go and things to do. We have stayed there a few times and plan on returning. The wine, conversation and comfortable lodging keeps us coming back . The homemade muffins are delicious and the fresh fruit is wonderful. This year we stayed at the Carriage House and it was so charming. It was great to hike "Old Rag" and come back to the Carriage House and relax with a glass of wine.

We had a great time at Sharp Rock. We stayed in the Carriage House and since it was a Monday night we had the place to ourselves. The wine was great and we enjoyed sipping it on the deck of the house. Also, enjoyed the firepit down by the river. Jimm is a great host and very friendly. Hope to return soon!

I enjoyed my stay at Sharp Rock - the wines were the best I've had from not only VA but compares to those of Napa that I've visited! The cottage was rustic and quiet. My husband and I would sit on the deck and drink wine and enjoy the night sky. Although it's a nice setting, it's a little more expensive than what I was getting from it. Just my viewpoint. I see other very positive reviews so I'm not going to be a big black cloud. But I felt that I have gotten a peaceful experience staying at the nice cabins of Skyland (Shenandoah Nat'l Park) for half the price. -- Yes I know, it's not a vineyard and the dogs are totally cute, but for $200 a night I was expecting more of a luxury feel. Maybe that's my fault.

Virginia is a major destination for vineyard junkies and while some are well-known, many hidden jewels exist off the beaten trail. This is definitely one of them. The wines are excellent, especially for those with a palate for more rustic, earthy tasting notes. The owner is always friendly and attentive and the views on the property are spectacular. Speaking of which, it is located a mile from Old Rag Mountain, easily one of the most scenic hikes east of the Mississippi. If you are looking for a large, tour-bus-stop winery where a lack of free WiFi (they might have it... didn't ask... more important things :) ) and fried brie are deal breakers, this might not be your choice. But if you want good wines in a cozy environment and spectacular views, it is a must.

Thanks so much for the glowing review....are you sure you aren't my sister? So glad you had an enjoyable visit and that the wines were up to snuff. We are certainly happy when folks get to share in this exceptional location and that they prefer stunning views and peace to 100% connectivity. Please come again.
