- Kesh_grammyProvince of Connacht, Ireland37,698 contributionsA Perfect Afternoon at the Market at Grelen’sI have lost count of how many wonderful stops at The Market at Grelen I have made coming from Dulles, Reagan National or Union Station heading to Charlottesville. Today, was no exception, the Vegetable Soup and Biscuits were scrumptious. The weather was mild, a perfect day to dine outside on the patio, overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains, one can’t ask for more. The Market was filled with many lovely Holiday gifts, including sweet decorations, Leslie Carter Gregg, ( Co - owner with her husband) mentioned the Market will be adding more items shortly.Visited November 2021Written November 14, 2021
- Linda SWake Forest, North Carolina414 contributionsPerfect summer lunchWish they had a sixth start I could give it! Talk about a hidden gem! Stopped for an early lunch on the way to Barboursville for a wine tasting. Wonderful outdoor seating in garden center among plants for sale and actual planting. Covered and uncovered areas. Limited bu exceptional menu. The BLT was outstanding. Pecan smoked bacon, red and yellow tomatoes that were fresh picked (saw it happen) perfectly toasted artisan bread, tender bib lettuce. The best I've had. The table also had the curry chicken wrap which was excellent and capriase salad. Beer selection is local and good variety. Ice cream at the end...what more could you ask on a beautiful afternoon. The garden center is lovely with interesting plants and grounds beautifully maintained. Next time will leave time for a hike!Thank you so much for your kind review! It is very much appreciated and we look forward to your next visit.Written September 30, 2020This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2020Written September 5, 2020
- SmallTownTravelRX169 contributionsDon’t missLooking for an activity for my SIL, 20 year old daughter and 11 year old niece while at lake Anna. The market popped up in trip advisor. My niece wanted to stay home and play video games but once at the market, we all had a great time. We picked peaches and blackberries (bring sunscreen for this), had lunch in the cafe and then ice cream. The salads were delicious and included fresh peaches. The honey vanilla ice cream was lovely. All the staff we encountered were super friendly.Visited July 2021Traveled with familyWritten July 18, 2021

This place is a must see. From a tasty lunch to homemade ice cream and a fun gift shop. I bought a pot of succulents right off of a table used for people having lunch. I loved the gift shop. Some thought had gone into what they offered. Not your run of the mill gift shop. And there were of course plants for sale.

This was an unexpected stop on the way to Charlottesville and it was so worth it! We had a great lunch, ice cream and wandered the grounds. Everyone was super nice and it is really beautiful. We will definitely make it part of our next trip!

The setting of the market is beautiful, it is a nursery. There is also a store to purchase plants and other items. We visited because we were looking for a lunch spot. The lunch menu offers just enough items and the food was delicious. The service was also very friendly and spot on.

Had lunch here after a morning at James Madison's Montpelier. nice ambience with an active nursery surrounding you while you eat. Farm to table dishes but a little limited in variety. Very good fresh ice cream for dessert. Nice to eat in a quiet outdoor setting. Service was very good.

I have had the pleasure of two visits to Grelen. One was with my grandsons to pick peaches and have lunch. I also visited this weekend with my husband after hiking in the Shenandoah. Both visits we had great service and food! Loved the beet salad and watermelon gazpacho. The ice cream is a nice way to end the meal. The last visit I enjoyed a glass of wine. We will be back!

It was a beautiful day and we sat out on the patio and kept our distance from other people. The food was delicious and the staff was very helpful.

This gorgeous spot (over 600 acres I am told) is next to Montpelier so easy to visit from Charlottesville, Orange , Richmond or..? A beautiful wedding venue/ lovely cafe/ lovely nursery and more. The staff are all friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Check out the website and figure out a reason to go and visit! Beautiful views are the least of it!

If it weren't for the snotty shop keep, this place would be nice. Had lunch Saturday and had questions regarding furniture. Chicken salad was good. Noticed they had wine later. Hard to find anyone to help, so I skipped it. Lady finally came out to help and she was quite snotty and acted as if I was bothering her. A little big for the britches. Maybe if they get some nicer help I would recommend.

This is a lovely nursery. It is truly a beautiful setting, but each time I've been there (this was visit #3) I've either been rudely ignored or answered abruptly when I've asked questions. On my first visit I was one of two customers. The other was apparently a friend of the shop keeper and they chatted the entire time I was there waiting for service. I gave up and left. Perhaps they can afford to loose business. It's unfortunate since I have a newly built home on 13 acres needing landscaping.

Where is "the barn by The Market at Grelen?" We're attending a wedding there soon and wanted to know how to find it, where to park, etc.

Google search for Market at Grelen and google map will lead you there. It is a large facility hosting weddings and selling plants and home grown jelly. Its about 90 minutes from Manassas, VA. Its better to take a GPS like Garmin as cell phones are very spotty for the last few miles. The directions are not updated, at one spot the road is closed but you'll need to continue straight rather than turning into that closed road which is not possible anyway. Also, getting out of that place at night after a ceremony can be tricky. Remember how you came.
