It's important to read the signs at the front entrance that explain everything as there are not really any signs within the fort area itself. There are nice shady trails to walk. Its a great place to picnic or spend a relaxing day at the...More

Walking the parameter Boykin provides a perspective on what was facing early settlers as well as the soldiers of the various wars conducted on US soil. The Fort played a role in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War. It is...More

I knew going in this was an earthen fort so we didn't expect any imposing buildings or forts. But the park is poorly marked with little explanation of what we were looking at. My husband is a history buff and even he was lost. Some...More

We visited Fort Boykin because that is where my husband's great great grandfather went to enlist in the 9th Virginia Infantry during the Civil War. There was very little of the actual fort still visible, but there were signs posted giving descriptions of where we...More

We were looking for a place to let the kids stretch their legs before a family event. This place was set at the end of a road with nice parking. As you wander through ancient towering trees and see what is left of the fort...More
