A taste of the Walton's series
Watched the series in the 1970s and reconnected during the pandemic when watching it again. So, why not see Walton's Mountain area when nearby? The old high school now serves as a museum to the series and it is well worth the $12 admission. They went all out recreating different venues of the series like John Boy's room and the Baldwin Sisters' still. (Wish they sold recipe.) There's also a 30-minute video on the show that does a good job explaining everyone for those who don't know the show. The one downside is the area isn't anything like the series. Creator Earl Hammer's house is across the street, not far down the road like the show. There's no Ike Godsey store, though there is one down the street that sells limited memorabilia. So, it's not the Hollywood version. That said, I still enjoyed it.

    (Almost) An Excellent Visit
Very nice museum that you can view at your own pace with numerous exhibits, not all of which (re: the military one) are directly related to the Waltons. I'd no idea that Earl Hamner was both the inspiration for John-Boy as well as a prolific writer in his own right. The only downer was while watching the video regarding the Pony Cart. The idiot narrator was wearing a MAGA shirt that the museum folks rightly decided to blur out. So, you're watching the video and your eyes are like, "Am I losing my sight? This is such a distraction." I don't care about his politics but I sure prefer to see a video that doesn't have part of the center of the frame blurred.

    Great to see
This museum was great! They charge a $10.00 entry fee. Well worth the money if you love the Walton's. The museum has room set aside for John Boy, the house, Godseys store, the Baldwin's, etc. There is a 20 minute movie to see. Many artifacts from the show. Lots of pictures around with lots of information. One room is set up with a large military set up. A must see!

    Show Fans
Growing up watching the show , it was fun to see the various items in the museum, both recreations from the show, as well as items from Earl Hamner Jr’s life. Be sure to checkout the pony cart; the actual one from the show. It is a small community, but clearly proud of the show and Earl’s legacy. Plenty of free parking since the museum is in the former school; $10 admission to the museum and a small gift shop for souvenirs.

True to the TV show and movies
This is a lovely place to visit - even if you weren't a big fan of Walton's mountain. Evidently the cast has been very supportive and have visited many times. The rooms in the museum are very factual to the show. There is clothing worn by the actresses and actors and other items abound that were used on the show.. They actually bring back memories of the show. "the recipe" room is a hoot and the general store is a lovely gift shop with many different items to purchase. The $10 entrance fee is a gentle price to pay for all the information and memorabilia there. There also is a War memorabilia room which has items from WWI to Vietnam. This is a private collection and very comprehensive.

    Walton's Fan
If you are a fan of the Walton's TV series this is the stop for you. The museum housed in the old school house has a short film that is worth watching along with items and replicas from the television show. You can mail post cards from "Walton Mountain". The real life boyhood home of Earl Hamner is right across the street along with Ike Godfrey's store (gift shop).

    Walton's Mountain
We only got to visit the boyhood home of Earl Hamner, because the Museum was closed during our trip to VA. Very disappointed not to visit the museum. The house was very nice, but getting a ticket and getting in proved to be somewhat of a chore, but the Bed & Breakfast lady was very accommodating and gave us a key for a self-tour. We really liked that aspect as we could take as much time as we wanted in each room. The drive from Palmyra was beautiful, as is all of VA. Hoping the museum is open next time we visit our daughter in VA.

Walton's Mountain is a Great Experience
We visited "Walton's Mountain" this past Autumn, located in Schuyler, Virginia. It was the fictional location for the TV series, the Waltons (1970s-early 1980s). Located about 30 miles south of Charlottesville, Virginia, the little hamlet was actually the home town of Earl Hamner, the writer whose works formed the basis of the television series The Walton's, as well as the earlier movie, Spencer's Mountain. In fact Mr. Hamner was the narrator for the TV series. It was a wonderful experience. The museum is located in the old school house, and the staff there are very helpful and nice. The trip up Route 29 from Lynchburg was beautiful this time of year.

    Day trip to Schuyler
If you enjoy "The Waltons" you would enjoy this museum. Set in an old elementary school with the classrooms dedicated to different themes from the show. Johnboy's bedroom and Ike Godseys store are a couple of those. The Walton living room and a room set up like their Church. One room even has a replica of the Baldwin Sister's still. Lots of pictures and personal items from author Earl Hamner Jr.'s life as a young Virginia boy. Admission was $10.00 for adults. I will point out one thing the day we visited there was a strong musty/ mold like smell through out that old school building but that could have been because it was damp and rainy outside. If your not use a rural area you will enjoy the drive thru the mountains to Schuyler. All fans of Earl Hamner Jr and The Waltons should stop to see the museum if you find yourself anywhere in the central Virginia area!!

Deep in the Hill side, no cell phone, no Navi connection. But super cool. Bed and Breakfast on the other side of the road from the museum is a duplicate from the movie house even with the car in front. The museum is in the old high school in which the writer of the story went. His childhood house and a cute store right around the corner in walking distance. The whole drive there is just so relaxing.

Beautiful B&B built to recreate the Walton’s home! Our tour guide, Cat, was enthusiastic and fun. A fun, albeit out of the way, stop. Cat gave us a tour of the lower level and you could walk upstairs for a self guided tour. Got some great pictures, and as true Waltons fans, this was really fun!
