I went to Carvins' Cove to hike on a very windy day. I traveled the "green" trail from the boat launch. Luckily the trail was surrounded by trees and broke the wind to make for enjoyable weather for a hike. It was a nice day. Very peaceful. I met another couple out horseback riding and several families. Nice trails.

Carvins Cove is a great place to spend an hour or a day. Fishing, boating (your own or rentals), hiking, and beautiful views during every season. We used to be able to go park and just eat a quick lunch in the car, but there is an entrance fee now, even if you don't get out of your car.

My wife and I visited Carvins Cove on a cloudy Sunday afternoon. Despite the cool and overcast conditions, the lake was well used by kayakers, people fishing from boats and pedalo users. We wanted to walk beside the lake. It is a 3 mile walk from the parking lot to the trailhead. We walked 1.5 miles in an hour reaching... More

In Roanoke for a Bridal Shower. Had a little free time so my sister and I rented kayaks for the first time at Carvins Cove. It was absolutely beautiful and very peaceful just paddling around the lake on a very hot day. Rentals are very inexpensive. Will be back for the wedding in September and will visit again for some... We spent about 2 hrs here walking the easy to moderate trails mainly through the woods. The shade was a welcome relief from the sunshine. We saw folks fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and walking their dogs. Just a lovely area to spend some time in, stretch the legs, gets some exercise. It's a state operated park, I think, and cost a... At a mere 30-minute drive from the heart of downtown Roanoke, in Hollins, VA, this is one of the community's principal water sources. A man-made lake with excellent fresh-water fishing from shore or by small john-boat. Beautiful vistas of the surrounding mountains, particularly Tinker Mountain at whose base the lake is located. Picnic tables in specified areas around the shoreline... More

What a great place to relax. Rented a John boat and meandered around for several hours. Saw hawks and Herons while out there it was incredible. The boat rentals are very inexpensive. You have the choice of paddle boat, kayak, and John boat. Well worth it

We love to take a little fishing boat out here. Picnic in the great shady picnic area. Fish all day, and enjoy the view of the mountains. The bathrooms are cool and the ride out here is nice.

The parking is a pay for the day, but is reasonable. There are trails to hike or bike around the lake. There is a bath house and picnic areas. The lake is nice for fishing or canoeing but sometimes a little windy.

The Cove offers so much great hikes, kyaking, fishing and picnic. We walk the dog every chance we get, easy to enjoy the picnic areas and fishing pier.
