This open-air market is the oldest, continuous operation of its kind in Virginia. Year-round activities, including special holiday events, the annual chili cook-off and monthly Art by Night, as well as local color, characters and produce make it one of the city's most popular spots.

Lots of local vendors for food and art! Wish we had time for the museums but would recommend if you have a few hours to spend.

A co-worker of mine showed me all the restaurants in the area as I just took a job on Jefferson & Kirk. I never knew there were so many restaurants and the farmer's market is wonderful; fresh fruits, vegetables, desserts, and more. Also, they have parties in the park, festivals, live music, museums and much more. A great destination for... More

The Roanoke Citty Market is a great place to find fresh local produce, plants, flowers handmade jewelry and crafts. The market building has several good food stalls and a couple of restaurants inside. There are many more great restaurants in the market area where you can find whatever you might be craving. The local shops carry a bit of everything... More

Those who were there selling their goods, seemed like a good variety. It was fun to stroll around and see what's in season. Love the quaint little shops along the street. Many restaurants to choose from.

My husband and I stopped in Roanoke on a trip to NC. When we travel we try to get a sense of local flavor and culture so we decided to go downtown to walk around and have dinner. While we had a fabulous dinner at the Lebanese restaurant, Cedars, we found the market area to be quite sad. We were... More

It looks like the glowing reviews for this building come when an event is held there. In off times, it is essentially a food court. There are several very good restaurants that occupy the building and, from the outside, all look like a normal restaurant experience. When you go inside the City Market, each restaurant also has window directly into... More

I agree with the previous reviewer Paul F. who stated "Forget it." The building was empty when we visited as well! I also agree with him regarding Roanoke being a waste of time - SPOT ON. Thank GOD we stayed at a nice hotel! Because of all the great reviews we stopped in this town. Needless to say the reviews... More

Really cool placed to visit. Local farmers set up to sell fresh fruits, vegetables, plants, etc., during the day surrounded by a variety of restaurants to meet any craving. A can't miss when visiting the star city.
