I'm always interested in local history and this is the place to go! It's a small museum but it suites Roanoke just fine. You can learn a lot about the local history here with many displays and the Watts Library.

Thank you for the glowing review! We try to squeeze a lot into the space we have available, there's a lot of history in our town. We hope you are able to stop by as we are trying to constantly rotate our temporary exhibit space and bring in varying interests! We appreciate the support. More

Roanoke has a unique approach to museums. It has five of them in an old building in the downtown market area. You can buy an admission to all of them, plus a couple off-site or do them one by one. We always like to learn about regions we pass through and this museum was excellent for that. The history of... More

Great historical presentation of the development of the Roanoke Valley, from the early native American tribes to modern times. Many artifacts and a some recreations, lots of signage and explanatory panels. Interesting for adults, but I suspect most children, especially young children, would be bored.

We made a day of several museums in the area and this is one of the better ones. The exhibits were well planned and descriptive and interesting to a wide variety of age groups. There wasn't a lot to see but what was there was done well.

It's tiny but packed with stuff. You can skim over the surface or let yourself get totally pulled back through time - the choice is yours

While small compared to larger cites the museum was very well done with an assortment of displays now that the renovation is complete. From early Native American life up to the present day the displays take your through the regions history. Tailored to adults and older students we found it very easy to understand the signage and vocal/media displays. Tip-... More

We were given a first class description of Roanoke by a first class receptionist. She gave us excellent directions to the various museums in the area. The history museum itself was more that worth seeing.

Although the sign on the door said the Museum was open while we were there, the door was locked. We rang the bell and one of two employees sitting in our "We're closed because of the weather"--the weather was fine and every other business/museum in Roanoke was open; there were people walking and driving on all of the DT streets....
