Great hike

Some people here said it was easy, but I ran into several people on the trail today who found it to be pretty challenging - doable, but not a simple stroll. Make sure you go over the mountain. There were several points where I thought o had reached the end, but to get to Blizzards Rock, you have to top the mountain.

Great hike

Hubby and I took a day off and did this hike.. there are a couple trails but we did the buzzard trail .. from beginning to return it was 3.5 miles .. the hike is great and the view was really nice ... but there isn’t a large look out, that can be crummy for some if it’s crowded ... lucky for us we were unbothered the entire time we were looking out from the top... we plan to hike the other trails in the near future... we both have some joint issues and this hike wasn’t too bad...there is a portajohn in the parking lot.. hubby said it was really clean.. this hike would also be even better in late fall or winter when all the leaves are off the trees.. can’t wait to go back

Nice trail, a little narrow if walking multiple dogs. I wasn't sure when we hit the top but based on internet photos we found it. Not as big of an area to hang out at the top as I hoped, but a nice view.

Difficult to find but well worth the trouble. Moderate climb to the top. Appropriate for all age groups! Maps are provided at the bottom of the preserve.

Enjoyable but strenuous hike with dog. peaceful view at top. Went on a Saturday afternoon. Passed other friendly hikers along the way.

Pleasant, moderately challenging, and fun

The trailhead is in the middle of a residential neighborhood, interestingly. The parking area is not that large, so probably best to get there reasonably early. There were some picnic tables, trail maps, and one super clean portapotty right there at the parking area. My wife and I took the Blue trail all the way up to Buzzards Rock.

The trails are well-marked. It took us about 1 hour 40 minutes to ascend and about 50 minutes to descend. It's about a 3.8 mile roundtrip if you don't cut corners. We were not rushing. It was fun to just move along at an easy conversational pace. It was mostly easy, but you do have to pay attention. There are some fairly steep areas, but nothing too difficult.

We really enjoyed it! The view at the top is nice and the way up was pretty.

Excellent short hike right in town

We found this by accident looking for something shorter to do on a 92 degree day. It is newer county park area. We hiked to Buzzards Rock. There were nice views of the Roanoke valley (I am sure much better in other seasons when there are no leaves on trees). We day hike about 300 miles annually and would describe this as the low end moderate difficulty range. Round trip is 4 miles with a 900 foot elevation gain. Most switchbacks were longer and gradual….a few were more steep. There were 2 more trails and you could extend hike to about maybe 6 miles if desired.

This is a nice hike to the other side of the mountain where if lucky you will see several buzzards roosting. Trail in spots needs some help.

Worth the views from this vantage point. Clear days are best, but nice no matter the weather. Not super-high elevation, but nice.
