A airy, well lit space to see a variety of displays. I love that they have community programs so everyone can experience this lovely museum.

I was in Roanoke on business when I had a break between conferences. I saw an advertisement for the Eleanor D. Wilson Museum. I love visiting museums and I was unfamiliar with this one. It was only a short drive from the hotel so I decided to visit. The museum is on the campus of Hollins College on the first floor of the Richard Wetherill Visual Arts Center. It is a state-of-the-art climate-controlled facility with three interconnected galleries totaling approximately 4000 square feet of exhibition space. The museum presents work from the permanent collection and mounts exhibitions that explore currents in contemporary art.

I was fortunate enough to see the 2016 Senior Majors Exhibition. It featured the work of eight members of the Hollins University class of 2016 majoring in studio art. The exhibits included photography, pottery, ceramics, drawings, and sculpture; I was very impressed with the skill and imagination of the students. I was especially intrigued with the pottery and mugs.

There is no admission fee but donations are encouraged. The staff was very friendly. If you are in the Roanoke area, I highly recommend you visit the museum.

As university museums go- very nice. The facility is well maintained; the lighting on the works displayed is done correctly.

We visited the museum first for a special textile exhibit. As an alumna of the university, I was pleasantly surprised by the change made to the campus by the Visual Arts Center and Museum. The building is attractive, light, and airy -- just exactly what one wants for creating or viewing art. There are two exhibit galleries large enough to house "just right" sized showings -- not too small, not too big. There is also a small gift shop with very nice art-related products available -- a nice supplement to the University Bookshop across the parking lot. Each time we've visited, we've been greeted pleasantly by a (usually) student worker -- a nice touch, especially as when visiting museums in DC, one is subject to a bag search by a security guard! I only wish that the museum offered more exhibits that were to my taste -- I like textiles and other traditionally "women's" media, and I had expected that at a women's university, these artforms would be showcased. Instead, there is a lot of printwork, painting, and sculpture, usually non-representational.

Pleasant surprise!

We stopped by after visiting the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke earlier in the day. The current exhibit "Echo Sounding" showing works by three artists ( Liz Miller, Younseal Eum, and Hugette Despault May) is outstanding! We found the work of all three artists thoroughly engrossing. We will definitely visit this museum on our next visit to Roanoke.

Andy Warhall exhibit was good. Also the Good Night Moon exhibit was good too. Glad to see some of the way Good Night Moon was intertwined with Run A Way Bunny.

Nice small musum located on campus of Hollins University. Art is its focus and it always has very high quality exhibits of national and regionally known artists. If you go take tie to stroll the school's grounds as there are surprise sculptures scattered about.
