Absolutely amazing time! Even going in the dead of winter, the Dreamcatcher Tipi was cozy. At one point we had to turn the heat down!
The owners have thought of pretty much everything, and the Tipi is stocked with coffee, creamer, sugar, tea, spices, eating utensils (be wary that they aren't microwave safe) and big towels for the bathroom.
In the bathroom, soap, shampoo, q-tips, even make-up remover wipes!
Though the Tipi is listed as accommodating 6 people, I wouldn't recommend more than 4 adults. It was a comfortable stay for two couples, adding more adults wouldn't have been fun but children can definitely fit!
We plan to go again!

One of the most memorable times in our lives!!! We had such an amazing experience. Stayed for two nights. Although there was no time to do any of the activities in the outdoor adventure park, we still had a wonderful time at the Tipi. My kids enjoyed picking up the fresh farm eggs in the morning from the chicken coop and enjoyed cooking them on the outdoor fire pit. We also had so much fun feeding the horse and animal farms. Just amazing!! The only thing I recommend if you do come at winter time is to bring along some extra blankets as it gets cold at night! We had so much fun that we never watched any Netflix which was available at the Tipi. The kitchen is full of items that you can use, so no need to bring any kitchen items. We will definitely do it again!

Sandy River was an amazing trip for our family. We stayed two nights in one of the tipis. It was all the fun of camping but with a luxurious "tent" to come back to. We also stayed two night in one of the cabins which was so nice and well maintained. These two spots were very relaxing in the beautiful setting of rural Virginia. What really made the trip were all the experiences we had. The adventure course was so much fun for us and our two boys, ages 7 and 11. The pool was fun every day and by the pool we enjoyed ping pong, soccer, the hammock, and horseshoes. We spent some time every day just down the road at the reservoir kayaking and fishing. We biked the High Bridge Trail. Every day we were treated to farm fresh eggs. Most importantly the owners, Mark and Candice, and their staff were amazing. They are so accommodating, reachable, and friendly throughout our stay! We would come back every year!

What a great experience! If you’re looking for a truly unique glamping experience, look no further. The architecture on these tipis is very impressive and you’re provided with everything you need for a great time. Bear in mind, you’re still in the outdoors and this isn’t a hotel, so if things aren’t perfect — it’s ok, give these folks a break :) they really make an excellent effort to respond to every demand. Amazing for romantic getaways or a reunion.

My husband and I had a wonderful time glamping in the Shining Star Tipi. We had a very relaxing and unique experience. All was done on a luxury scale with everything needed to have a comfortable stay even heated floors for the chilly mornings. The decor is rustic but lovely. The well equipped kitchenette is nice and there is all you need to cook on the fire pit outside your tipi. Also there are chairs and a picnic table for your enjoyment right outside your door. The pool and family play area is very close by.. There is plenty of space between tipis so no feeling of neighbors intruding. The housekeeping is tops. Everything was shiny clean.
We had a long chat with Mark the owner. He is a great person and very hospitable. The whole staff is awesome. Check in and check out is very easy. Wifi is good. What more could you ask for??? Everyone should go glamping in a tipi

This is one of the best places I have ever visited. I've been to 17 countries and 37 states and this place is in my top 5. Staff is informed and attentive, location is close to fishing, swimming at the lake, stores, bike trails, adventure park, petting farm. The highlight of the trip is the luxury Tipi. BOOK IT...

My family did the Sandy River Adventure Park last week. I have older kids so they were able to handle the obstacle courses on their own. There were some kid friendly courses as well for younger kids. Mark and Candice Smith, the owners, were very nice and gave great instructions on how to navigate the safety harnesses and courses. I'd love to go back to do some kayaking and to stay in one of the awesome Tipis. I have to say, I used muscles that I forgot I had but felt like I had accomplished something BIG when I was done. Everyone in my family had a great time. If you are in the area, Sandy River Adventure Park is a must see/do.

Our family was so impressed by Sandy River Outdoor Adventures. This was our fist time glamping and it did not disappoint. Mark greeted us, gave us some recommendations and showed us to our tipi. The tipi was clean and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed the outdoor pool - appreciated that reservations were required due to Covid. Bring a camera/phone, great views especially during sunset! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Our family just returned from two nights in the Windsong tipi, and it was fantastic. The tipis are amazing, the staff is super attentive, and the adventure park was loads of fun. My 12 and 8 year olds were nervous about the adventure park, but they did great (lots of help from my husband and me for the 8 year old; he simply wasn’t tall enough to do most of the clipping/unclipping himself). Reserving a two hour slot at the pool was fantastic and made us feel safe that we were distancing. We also hiked the High Bridge Trail while in town. We will be back next year, and we will rent canoes/kayaks in addition to the adventure park.

I searched high and low for a place to take the family where I could feel safe during this strange summer of 2020. Our family of 5 stayed in the Thunderbird Tipi, and it was such a unique and wonderful getaway. There are only 6 Tipis and 3 cabins, so you don't have to worry about crowds. They are very far away from each other, on a farm, so you feel like it's just you. Our 8 year old loved getting warm fresh eggs from the chicken coup in the morning. And the owners are super nice. The Tipi was clean and spacious, and had modern furnishings just as shown in the picture. We had a fun time canoeing but did not have a chance to do the adventure park, although we'll try the next time. Usually when we go on trips, we don't like staying in the room much, but this time, the kids kept wanting to go back to the Tipi! All in all, it was a great trip and we plan to go back!

What happens when it starts thunder and lightning and you are on the course?
What would happen, depending on how long you have been in the park, is that the staff who have all been trained in lowering climbers would use their devices to lower you to the ground from whichever course you happen to be on. They try and get everyone out of the trees within the first 10 minutes of hearing or seeing anything. If you had just started when the storm hits you will often be given a voucher to come back and climb for free (as a makeup for losing your time.)

I might be coming with my cousins and I was wondering if we can do a little bit of climbing then kayaking. It's their first time doing any kind of nature/outdoor activities and I really want to show them a good time. I noticed that you offer different obstacle courses in your adventure park like zip lining etc. and I was wondering if we can have someone with us at all times cause to help guide us.

There are staff that are with you the entire time you are on the ropes course. Hey train you at the beginning and are very positive and encouraging during the course time which will be around 2 hours.

Can I bring my own kayak?
To the park? Sure, however there is no lake or stream within the park for you to use. About half a mile from the park is the Sandy River Resivuar which you can always use and park your car at, or you can rent a canoe or kayak from the park for a 3 hour time session, tie it up at the end of your time and continue on your day. The staff stop by at a later time to pick everything up.
