We had a terrible experience with Yering Station. We booked lunch a month in advance as we had planned a weekend away with our little dog. Only to turn up on the day and as it had been raining in the morning there were "too many puddles outside" to allow us to sit outside with our booking. The weather was very clear by 10am and we arrived at our booking time - 12:30pm. The restaurant should have contacted us to let us know that they have cancelled our booking - not wait until we arrive to tell us "sorry but you can't eat here" even though we booked over a month ago and drove over 2 hours to get to this restaurant! Cannot believe how rude the waiter was too. Very unimpressed and won't be recommending this place to anyone.

Abysmal customer experience. Had a party of 20 people and the inflexibility of the restaurant to celebrate a 30th birthday was terrible. Not able to provide or allow you to bring non alcoholic wine for some pregnant girls. Not able to take basic birthday decorations. Not able to provide a cake unless you paid $6 per person for the privilege. Service by staff was non existent having to continually serve our wine ourselves. Didn’t provide guests with correct dietary requirements requested. eg; gluten free.
As an international recognised venue , we will not be recommending this restaurant to several people we known planning their upcoming celebrations.

Yering Station is Victoria's first winery, established in 1838, when Victoria was still attached to New South Wales. The vineyard has been planted with a variety of wines, but has specialised in cool climate varieties, which are well suited to the Yarra Valley's temperate climate. You can make it to the cellar door, but you can also buy on-line. Considering a bottle of mass-market wine costs $20 these days, the price for these outstanding estate-grown wines is quite reasonable

We had our wedding at Yering Station in mid-March this year. Olivia and the team at Yering Station were extremely helpful in preparation and on the day making everything run seamlessly. We had a beautiful ceremony under the trees in the garden and a reception in the restaurant, where the food was fantastic (especially considering how many people they served) and the wine of course was great too. The octopus entree and the slow-cooked lamb were particular highlights.
The team also went to the extra effort of bringing some canapés and champagne down to us as the bridal party was off taking photos, which was a particularly thoughtful touch so we didn’t miss out on some of their yummy food as the celebrations continued. Overall, they did everything in their power to make sure our wedding day was as perfect as possible.
We received a lot of feedback from guests that the food was great and that the view meant it was a great location to have a wedding.

Visited for a birthday. The excellent first ; entrees rabbit filleted, quail and scallops. On mains ; the duck was succulent as was pork belly. The sirloin was also good. Two ordered fish of the day , one dish was very well done and posed no problem. The other dish was powdery and did not taste right. The waiter was informed and supposedly checked the variation in quality with the chef. A rather bland ‘don’t worry , the fish is not the same and can be a different variety!’
This was brought to his notice again as there was a smell ,with this feedback given when we paid.
Later that evening the person who ate the fish developed a bad stomach ! This spoiled a birthday celebration.
An appropriate response is welcomed with a refund of the charge.

Celebrated my birthday here and had the most perfect day. Arrived at the grounds and walked through the green archway from the carpark into a beautifully serene garden with the sound of birds in the background. Magic!
Loved the blend of modern and heritage materials in the architecture, the wisteria, water and other garden features on site.
We arrived a little early and headed into the cellar doors to taste 5 gorgeous reds recommended by the sommelier. The staff were incredibly professional and knowledgeable in their wines - we ended up buying several bottles to cellar and drink on special occasions.
This was followed up by a 2 course lunch in the restaurant which had stunning panoramic views of the valley below.
We never told anyone we were there for my birthday but the staff were so friendly and really went the extra mile - it really made my day.
I've been to a number of wineries before but Yering Station is now number 1 for me. Would highly recommend for groups of all sizes and the terrace and surrounds would make an incredible backdrop for a wedding.
An experience you must try when in Victoria.

Went with a group of eight for lunch. Great venue with a fantastic outlook. The waitress was lovely and very professional. Sadly she was let down by the kitchen. Eye fillet ordered medium was more medium well. The worst thing was that the sides came out about 8-10 minutes after the mains were served. This meant that people had waited for them to compete their meal (which was now cold) or had basically finished their meal before they arrived. This also created a bit of agro at the table and changed the entire mood of the lunch. It is simply not good enough when you drop $1000 on the table for lunch to get this level of service. They are sides that are supposed to be served with the main course, not desert. Will not be going back.

We visited the restaurant with my family today. While clean, the restaurant looked tired and it looked like there was a broken door in the restaurant (which has been boarded up). Sadly there was no baby facilities in the toilet (despite there being a child menu for kids from 2 years onwards). While the food was delicious, the service was poor. The waitress that served us was inexperienced and rushed (even though we had told her to slow down and take her time). In her haste to clear the plates she dropped a dirty knife and fork on my 2year old son. Without much sincere acknowledgement of the incident or apology from the waitress or restaurant manager, we still paid the full bill (there was no offer from the restaurant to reduce the bill for any inconvenience). It was a terribly negative experience especially when we had travelled so far to have a family lunch. We felt rushed to eat and felt not wanted at the restaurant - a far cry from the “finest vineyard” it boasts to be. We will not be returning.

Yering Station was established in 1838, long before Victora became a State. It is always immaculately maintained. The restaurant has a reputation for innovation, it's no ordinary wine cellar restaurant. You can have steak or "trust the chef" and have a surprise menu. The wines are excellent, it's worthwhile doing a tasting.

A delightful building and surrounds, but what was supposed to be a special lunch turned out to be expensive and ordinary. There was a function filling half the restaurant area with out any screening and the noise and nature of the event impacted on our meals. In addition, the staff seemed distracted by the function and service of the remaining tables was all over the place and we did not feel that we connected with the staff who served us. While the buildings were amazing and the garden area at the rear was temporarily home to an interesting sculpture exhibition, the view from the restaurant out the huge glass windows was really ordinary - no rows of vines and looked like a dried out swamp. The experience was certainly not what we had expected.

Hi Joandee,
If we walk in for wine tasting ourselves, do we have to pay? And you mentioned the bottles are expensive, how expensive are they?
Cheers
Wink
