We stayed for a couple of days in the accommodation within the vineyard (which was superb) and made a phone booking for a combined distillery and wine tasting followed by lunch session. The gin distillery experience was excellent with a very informative guide Alex. The gins were also very good. On to the tasting next door- there seemed to be two women working, one was friendly and helpful but sadly the other did not seem to be interested at all. When you work in hospitality this makes a huge difference to the experience of the customer.
The wines were great and our food also too was high quality and locally sourced. The decking overlooking the vines and out to the Tamar river is beautiful.

We visited this winery a couple of times, once on the weekend and the other time on a week day. On both occasions staff were friendly, knowledgeable about the wines and did a good job of going through the wine tasting list. On the weekend we bought a few small plates of food to share and were quite happy. However, during the week the menu is limited, so we decided to spend $60 for the tasting platter which the menu indicated would feed 3-4 people. So disappointed when a board arrives with one pate, one cheese, one terrine and a small (very small) jar of quince paste. Maybe a quarter of an apple and a handful of crackers. All of this food still in its packaging, so greenery, etc. After 2 weeks in the Tamar Valley we consider this the worst value for money platter we have experienced. Shame as the views are gorgeous, staff friendly and wine delightful.

Hello there, Firstly, thank you for visiting us! We are always delighted to see people return to see us at Cellar Door. Our staff are really generous with their knowledge of the wines & region & we always try to assist travelers with hints & tips for experiencing Tassie! We are very sorry to hear you were not happy with the food experience on this occasion. We are first & foremost a Cellar Door - for wine tasting - & aim to provide food as an accompaniment to our wines. Hubert + Dan are our on site caterers who lead the bar menu on a weekend & we're really glad you enjoyed the new tasting plates. Mon-Thurs we actually only offer Tasting wine flights & a cheese plate, however, due to the Valley being much busier in January - people are often searching for food on those mid week days - and we made a small food offer in Jan of a "pick your own picnic" board & offered to pack up what you couldn't eat. It was entirely designed to be a 'snack' and not lunch. The sizing of our regular cheese plate is 30grams & these packages were 150-200grams - giving people the option to take away. We always make suggestions for lunch or a la carte dining on these days so I apologise if you were not made aware of this. A large amount of other cellar doors in the region do present their picnic boards in this fashion - stripped back - so you can take away what you don't finish after a nice afternoon on the grass! We had an overwhelming amount of positive feedback on this offer so I am really surprised & sorry to hear that your expectations were not met on this visit. We appreciate your patience & understanding on what is the busiest month in our entire year. Thank you for your feedback & we do hope that next time you leave TR with a smile on your face feeling the warmth & joy we aim for always. Best Wishes, TR CD Supervisor

Arrived here for lunch and wine tasting. Easy access and good parking available. A beautiful cellar door restaurant with glorious river views. Nice welcome with excellent service. The tasting was great value, interesting and informative. Lovely food. We were seated inside but looked across the lawn area and in the afternoon there was live music. A really nice atmosphere and a great place to chill out. Highly recommended.

We were gifted “Joint tour”, from friends. It involves a distillery tour and gin tasting, followed by a wine tasting and lunch in the cellar door.
The distillery tour and tasting was excellent, informative and nice gin varieties.
We were walked to the cellar door and our guide handed us over to the wine staff, who seemed confused as to what a “joint tour” actually was. When we asked what we could expect, and what was included in our package, the answer was “I don’t know”. And with $170 invested, I’d have expected a more polite answer.
When we finally sorted it out, the wine was good, Sauvignon a particular favorite - but when we decided to order a bottle, we had to leave our table and join the line at the entrance just to order a bottle - and it was handed to me with 2 glasses and not delivered to the table. The food was good, although the veggie option was cheese or nothing which wasn’t ideal at the price point.
Overall it’s a pleasant environment and a nice place to sit, but service is poor because of lack of staff and the attitude isn’t good.

My wife & I called in for a wine tasting. There were 2 ladies running the tastings, looking after a wine tour of 6 people, and 2 others. We were told we would have to wait 20 minutes, and the lady said they needed more staff. I have never experienced such a poor attitude and bad service at any other cellar door in Australia. Surely one person is able to look after the wine tasting for more than 1 group, however it appeared that was the case. So disappointing. There are many other wineries in the area, so don’t waste your time going to this one, so you can avoid the experience I had.

Visited with a friend. We’re in our late twenties and seemed to be considered too young to be deemed worthy of anything but condescending and rude service. A bit baffled by the whole experience, we decided to take our money elsewhere - perhaps to a smaller winery that appreciates our custom. I guess the big corporates sell enough wine without us.

We shared a Harvest Platter and an excellent bottle of Pinot Noir at Tamar Ridge Cellar Door for Mother’s Day lunch today. Service was outstanding - professional, warm and friendly. We are staying in the excellent accommodation onsite at the winery so will return to the Cellar Door tomorrow for a sit down wine tasting and platter. Cellar Door and accommodation both very highly recommended!

Well it was different I must say went to the wine tasting on Saturday night ..the food was cold and put in front of us sort of help your self 3 dishes on one plate to eat off .the best wine in the tasting you could not buy could not work out why they would give it to you ??asked for a slice of lemon or lime to put in a drink and was told could not get it out of the kitchen.in all a very strange experience.and not once did any of the staff or a host ask how things where.may be a bit better next time I hope..

It used to be that when you would attend a cellar door you would find the odd 'bargain' and be treated to samples of lovely wines (free) and be able to purchase at reasonable prices.

These days it seems that you have to pay for your samples and pay exorbitant prices as well. A quick check on the Dan Murphy site when we were there showed prices of up to 50% discount on the cellar door prices. Why would you?

We had a wine tasting and a couple of plattersThe platters were $70.00 for the two. I didn't think that the cheese platter,($30.00) had enough on it.

Thanks so much for the feedback - we appreciate it! We serve premium Tasmanian cheeses, sometimes it's only enough for a nibble between two - though we are currently re imagining our food offer at Tamar Ridge & hope that next time you stop by you leave with full stomachs & some delicious Pinot in the belly! Cheers
