    Excellent tasting with wonderful service
Stopped here for a tasting. Our host was Steve and he was superb and made this visit the highlight of our Tamar Winery visits. The wines were excellent and we got to try some of the top wines as well. We had a cheese tasting platter that was made with love and care. We enjoyed sitting at the bar listening to Steve’s stories. Thank you from the Kiwis.

We had an enjoyable time at Tamar Ridge Cellar door. We went for the Classic Tasmania tasting option which included 5 wines. Cheese platter was also good. I had planned to have lunch there as well but their kitchen had already moved by the time I visited.

    Great view over river
There are many great wines in the region however one of the stand outs at Tamar Ridge cellar door was the friendly and knowledgeable team, with Steve enthusiastic to share the process behind some of the wine making methods and varietals. The wine flight options are good value and personalised. The bonus … the view over the river is fabulous and it’s an enjoyable space on a sunny day.

We arrived around 3 hoping to try some wines and maybe grab a cheese platter, at which point the gentleman running cellar door merely “pointed” at the board on the wall, leading us to need to decipher what the lists meant.

Ah ok, one is a Pinot tasting only ($30pp) the other is a combo of sparkling, white & Pinot ($20).

We thought, hey why not get one of each & then share.

Again we were pointed to a seat on the other side of the bar, backs to the stunning view, with no engagement whatsoever in “where would you like to sit today”?

He went on to serve two ladies who arrived after us, taking their drinks & food order, and then opening a bottle of bubbles and pouring them both a glass. We still sat there with empty glasses, no wine lists and no engagement by the staff member.

We asked if the $50 tasting fee was redeemable against purchasing wine? No. You get a 10% discount. The first words, of the few we begrudgingly coaxed out of the staff member. I

Knowing that, we decided our money might be best enjoyed by buying a glass each (we’d already decided without speaking to each other that there was no way we’d be getting a platter served by this cold fish) and sitting out to enjoy the magnificent view over the river valley.

We could not have felt more inconvenient to this member of staff, less welcome or greeted if we’d been sludge on the floor. Never have we received such cold, indifferent “customer” service and Tamar Ridge should consider some serious staff training.

Dreadful.

We were gifted “Joint tour”, from friends. It involves a distillery tour and gin tasting, followed by a wine tasting and lunch in the cellar door.
The distillery tour and tasting was excellent, informative and nice gin varieties.
We were walked to the cellar door and our guide handed us over to the wine staff, who seemed confused as to what a “joint tour” actually was. When we asked what we could expect, and what was included in our package, the answer was “I don’t know”. And with $170 invested, I’d have expected a more polite answer.
When we finally sorted it out, the wine was good, Sauvignon a particular favorite - but when we decided to order a bottle, we had to leave our table and join the line at the entrance just to order a bottle - and it was handed to me with 2 glasses and not delivered to the table. The food was good, although the veggie option was cheese or nothing which wasn’t ideal at the price point.
Overall it’s a pleasant environment and a nice place to sit, but service is poor because of lack of staff and the attitude isn’t good.

We are spoiled in Australia with some amazing wineries with amazing ambience ,food and wine but for me I felt this was lacking here .
Albeit it was late in the day and we all felt very rushed .
The guy giving us the Tamar Wines speech was I felt very condescending and treated us like dummies even though we told him we came from a huge wine district in South Australia.
To me the wines we’re okay but I certainly wasn’t blown away apart from the prices .
Nice views but would not revisit.

My wife & I called in for a wine tasting. There were 2 ladies running the tastings, looking after a wine tour of 6 people, and 2 others. We were told we would have to wait 20 minutes, and the lady said they needed more staff. I have never experienced such a poor attitude and bad service at any other cellar door in Australia. Surely one person is able to look after the wine tasting for more than 1 group, however it appeared that was the case. So disappointing. There are many other wineries in the area, so don’t waste your time going to this one, so you can avoid the experience I had.

The one point is for the view. This was the only redeeming feature of the place. Visited with my son and his fiancé on her first visit to Tasmania. Disgusting experience due to the rude, ignorant, almost non existent service. Not welcomed, not offered anything, nil information and when we were finally acknowledged as being there, staff had no idea what they were talking about. Will never visit again nor buy a product from here due to this. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone...Drive past this one and go a little further down the road there are some other absolutely gorgeous welcoming little vineyards with tastings, food, service and a smile.

Visited with a friend. We’re in our late twenties and seemed to be considered too young to be deemed worthy of anything but condescending and rude service. A bit baffled by the whole experience, we decided to take our money elsewhere - perhaps to a smaller winery that appreciates our custom. I guess the big corporates sell enough wine without us.

We shared a Harvest Platter and an excellent bottle of Pinot Noir at Tamar Ridge Cellar Door for Mother’s Day lunch today. Service was outstanding - professional, warm and friendly. We are staying in the excellent accommodation onsite at the winery so will return to the Cellar Door tomorrow for a sit down wine tasting and platter. Cellar Door and accommodation both very highly recommended!

We did a tasting here and then light finger food with a glass of Pinot before moving on. Wine was good and presentation well informed. I am a Pinot lover and generally think Tasmanian Pinots are over rated. Not so here their reserve is a great wine, hence we had to stay on for another glass. The food we had just some bread and meats was well presented and tasty, compared to some other experiences up the valley I would also say generous in serving.
