The Yandhai Nepean Crossing across the Nepean River is a really interesting new pedestrian bridge over the lovely river. There were lots of people out and about giving it a bright cheerful community vibe that felt natural to the area and not artificial or touristy. We walked down some steps to the walking trail that lead to weir, an interesting structure in it's own right. There were people fishing and other folks out strolling just like we were. We saw tons of birds, and the foliage was spectacular. All in all quite a pleasant place for a peaceful evening stroll.

I have always enjoyed walking the Nepean River Bridge to Bridge loop but a couple of weeks ago the new pedestrian bridge has opened and it adds another dimension to this stroll. Being a long way from the beach this is one of the few scenic water walks that can be taken on a regular basis. On the Emu Plains side, you have the choice of walking on the wide footpath at street level or head down and walk the track along the river bank. On the Penrith side, you walk through Tench Reserve with its playgrounds, picnic areas and promenade of mulberry trees and then back on to the street under the Jacarandas. Up to now, pedestrians and bike riders had to take the narrow pathway across Victoria Bridge but now we have the new bridge that provides beautiful views of the Nepean River and its banks. The former Coffee Club is being renovated with a number of additional restaurants and cafes being constructed and the historic Emu Hall being made into a dining establishment. The new bridge makes this 6.5km walk one of the best in metropolitan Sydney and well worth the drive.

Tench Reserve is a lovely park & great for walking or a picnic.
A very popular place for photographs.
It’s always clean & very peaceful even though there is currently a lot of construction in the area.
Nepean Belle river cruises depart from here & there is ample parking available.

Did the bridge to bridge loop on a sunny Sunday with my partner and dog and it was awesome! Beautiful views and fresh air cool wind off the river the whole way. One side has either a sealed path option along the road, but we took the unsealed path along the river as there was a lot less people down there, shadier from the trees and the path is very wide so when there are people you can easily stroll past each other.
The loop was over 7kms all together so I’d allow a few hours to complete it (depending how fast you walk).
The other side has a section where you walk along a local road to get back to the pedestrian bridge and the houses along the street are so beautiful. A mix of new modern houses and renovated old ones.
A great day out and plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby to get food at after.
What id recommend:
- swimmers! There’s a small pontoon along the way which is great for a quick dip to cool off.
- take water! Especially if you have a pup. The walk is very long and there isn’t any bubblers along one entire length (4kms). There are only bubblers on the side with the children’s parks. So if you start here you go the entire way without a chance to refill.
- sunscreen! Both bridges are very long with no shade walking across it is hot!

We crossed the Nepean River on our way to the Blue Mountains. Nice views across the river and the wooden stream banks.
