Booked based on past reviews and we were not disappointed. Instead of loading from a beach, we were shuttled to the boat in Zodiacs because the surf was too high to launch from the beach. They did a great job of assisting two 77 year olds in spite of the awkward entry to the Zodiacs. Capt. Pete was personable and gave us a lot of information about his huge catamaran. We asked one of the zodiac drivers if they had to restrict the number of people on the boat and he said they had 46 people and have never had more than 49, even though the legal capacity is over 100. In spite of the white caps on the ocean, the ride was reasonably smooth. The snorkel site was memorable and everyone on board was helpful and courteous. Food and drinks were extra and that pushed the cost up by about 50% but still less than a similar excursion on Kawai that we have taken before. You could save money by bringing your own food and not buying drinks but that is all part of the experience. Service was excellent. All the staff wore masks but social distancing on a boat is impossible.

My friend Brenna and I were traveling in Maui and wanted to find something fun to do on our last day, we found Hula Girls online and after reading a few reviews booked it almost immediately.

The reviews are so accurate, this was an INCREDIBLE experience and next time I'm in Maui I will definitely book a trip with them again.

The whole experience was so nice, clean, and thought out. The staff was incredible, the food was SO good. They cap the amount of people who are aloud to go on the boat so its a much smaller group which I think makes the experience so much better.

There was also a scuba instructor on board and there was a very special opportunity to do scuba diving with him and so my friend and I decided to do it. You get lots of instruction and training on what to do and what to expect before doing the dive. The dive was no more than 20 feet deep with the surface close in reach but still, my friend and I got a little nervous at different times before doing the dive. The dive instructor was truly THE BEST and completely helped calm our nerves.

For me specially, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to do the dive right before it was time but he helped me feel SO much more comfortable by holding my hand for the first 15-20 minutes while we were underwater and I can't tell you how much of a difference this made for me. We saw so many turtles and were swimming so close to them. I've never seen anything like it. I'm sooo, SO grateful for this opportunity and it was truly an experience I will never forget.

Still my favorite thing to do on Maui. My family loves this trip. If you are new to Maui and can afford to spend a little more money on a snorkel trip you must do this one.

First and foremost the boat is amazing and the many times I have been on it the boat is always very open and not overpacked. They do a great job of limiting the amount of people on the boat.

We went during whale watching time(January) and wow did we get a 2 for 1! Snorkeling and whale watching.

Food is great, drinks are great and the crew has always been great and friendly to us.

One small negative is they now charge for holding a specific seat in the galley area if you wanted to be in there and stay. They will serve you in there as a table opens up but you can spend some extra money and reserve these seats now. I wouldn't do that unless you wanted the upper deck and wanted to spend the money to do it.

First of all I must say the crew....workers were very helpful and courteous however the Captain and his wife "The Owners" were extremely disingenuous. Our cruise began with the owner giving a long winded speech on the bow of the boat and made sure to tell us he and his wife owned the boat blah blah blah. We paid for a snorkeling trip, not a half hour long speech. We then noticed the captain on his phone most of the trip while the whales in the distance breached the surface and laughed at us cause the pre-occupied captain never saw them nor turned the boat in their direction. The owners wife is aged, carries a permanent scowl on her face, and treated the crew like children. Everything on the boat was super expensive and the environment is reminiscent of playing cards at an old folks home. I would not recommend this cruise to any persons on a budget or under 70 years old.
We booked a trip the following day on Teralani and although the boat was not as nice, the staff AND CAPTAIN were amazing and went out of their way to make sure our money was well spent. The cruise had an entirely different vibe with energetic music choices, decent food and beverage choices included in our booking price, and when we left it felt like a great experience.
We will never book another expensive and boring trip on Hula Girl.

The crew bosses the new captain around. We had two cruises booked but after the first one, we cancelled the sunset cruse due to the nasty servers who are now running the boat. We cruised with them in 2012 with the owner-captain and loved it! Fast forward to 2021 to find out that the "crew" runs the ship. Now they try to sell seating to customers after the expensive fees for the cruise that does not include anything but the ride wherever you may find a seat. We took a seat in one of those places because it wasn't reserved, and we were treated poorly the rest of the cruse.
1) No real service after they asked us if we paid another fee to sit there although it wasn't booked or reserved. Served us a breakfast muffin without mentioning the charge (was not worth it) and also refused to sell us a bottle of wine (on the menu) but had no problem with more expensive drinks or wine by the glass, after we complained, we were ignored to the point it was rude.
talking to the "captain" about this did not help the situation as he is the son-in-law and only drives the boat, letting the help make policy and treat guests poorly.
when I suggested we would not go on the sunset trip, he didn't have any problem with that except to say he thought we should go. That did nothing to alleviate the situation and we cancelled for sure and would not recommend this vessel again for these reasons. Rude crew, captain with no authority and no problem with losing customers. That is a pity because it used to be worth the expense when there was a tight crew and a real captain.

Hula Girl is the best snorkeling and whale watch catamaran in Maui. The trip is 5 1/2 hours and worth every penny. They have a renowned chef on board that cooks lunch to order with the best fresh fish special every time. The crew is great and very helpful. This year (our 8th) we were rewarded with female humpback whale that mugged our boat for 45 minutes. She did rollovers, pectoral waving, tail waving, and swam beneath our boat several times. She was so close to us. We recommend Hula Girl to anyone that is visiting Maui.

We chose the Hula Girl Boat for our sunset whale watching cruise. The boat is absolutely beautiful. Very classy. But it may not be worth the extra, and I mean extra cost to enjoy your trip. First of all no drinks or food are included, everything is extra. We knew that and hoped that would deter parents with small children as there isn’t much of a break in children pricing. It didn’t there were plenty of children. We also chose to pay $200 to have a private table up on the fly deck. Before booking I clarified that although other people on the boat can come up and enjoy the view and chat with the captain they couldn’t stay up there. I verified this Mona before booking.

What does happen is that if they don’t rent out the two tables on the fly deck, anyone can take them. There was a man and his daughter at the other table and he asked me what I paid for my table, I told him $200 and he said I just came up and no one said anything. He was served the same as us. I called the next day and spoke with Mona about this. She checked into it and said if they aren’t rented anyone can take them. So here’s a tip, get up there fast if they aren’t rented you’ll be able to stay!

We didn’t see a lot of whales compared to the week before when we went on a Sea Maui Sunset Live! Cruise. A lot more friendly on your wallet, all drinks and food are included, and both are bountiful, plus live music! The crew was a blast and the captain knew where to take us as he was in contact with other boats. We saw two males trying to capture the heart of a female. So much fun!

On Hula Girl our captain was on his phone most of the cruise, he was not friendly at all, and made no attempt to change location when we pointed out other boats that were surrounded by whales. The owner of the boat responded to my complaints and said the captain and crew said my husband and I were on the lower deck most of the trip not on the fly deck. We never left the fly deck until we returned to shore. Makes sense because the crew wasn’t up by us much and the captain was on his phone.

So I’ll summarize, the Hula Girl is a very classy smooth ride and no matter what the captain and crew do or don’t do you are surrounded by beauty and will see whales. But…….Sea Maui Sunset Live! Is a blast and the captain seemed more involved with the trip.

We probably would do both again, Sea Maui for certain.

However excellent the lunch is—and it’s fantastic, at a reasonable price, the best thing about Hula Girl excursions is the generous snorkeling time allotted. What’s more, you sail back to your origin in high style, motor off, at the sweet and silent mercy off the winds. Discounts for return travelers.

worst boat ride of my life. my friend witnessed the female owner (I think her name was Inky) speaking to her crew member so disrespectfully while he was ordering a drink. my friend spoke to the woman telling her she should not be speaking to her coworkers like that (not knowing she was the owner), and she shouted that she was the owner of the vessel and yelled at him to get out of her face. He ran outside to where I was in shock that he’d just been spoken to by the owner so rudely on a boat cruise we easily dropped over $300 on each. The crew and my dive instructor were amazing but none of them looked happy to be there, and I can see why. We were so uncomfortable the rest of the trip, and discussed our shock and disappointment with many other customers who watched the whole ordeal in the restaurant. I hope this warning helps you decide on a better cruise and avoid this extremely uncomfortable experience. or at the very least, request a trip that Inky is not working on.

My wife and I take Hula Girl out for relaxing and snorkeling each year we visit Maui. Many years ago we tried several other catamaran excursions and some were very good. However, once you have been on Hula girl you will never go back. By far, the nicest boat. Crew is great. They never over load the boat so it’s always comfortable. Lots of shade available if needed. Only catch is all food and drinks are not included. BUT........they have their own chef on board with a great menu cooked to your satisfaction. Also, all premium drinks. If you’re willing to spend a bit extra, this is the one. You will never go back to any other boat
