Many thanks to Tangier-Onancock Ferry for getting us back to Reedville, VA when our originally chartered boat (different company) decided not to run. It was a beautiful trip and your hospitality was greatly appreciated.

We chose the perfect day for a trip to Tangier. The ride was beautiful. Captian Mark is friendly and is happy to answer your questions. He did everything to help make this trip memorable for my Mom, who's parents were from Tangier but she had never been to the island. Great day trip!

While waiting onboard for our 3:30 departure from Tangier, we peppered Captain with many questions about life on Tangier, and learned so much. His love for his island and deep knowledge made the day very memorable for us. If you’re a walker, walk to the end of the islands far tip. Beautiful and sobering to see the bay chewing away at the land. We hope lawmakers and scientists can work to save this national treasure.

Despite living in either Maryland or Virginia for most of my life, I had never visited Tangier Island -- until today. For my trip, I chose to travel from Onancock to Tangier, which allows for more time on the island than the other same-day ferry options. The round trip cost was a very reasonable $25, with the 36-foot Joyce Marie II leaving the Onancock dock promptly at 10 a.m. Be sure to take cash; credit cards aren't accepted. Also, advance registrations are advisable. No downpayment was required to make a reservation; it was simply a phone call to save a spot on the boat each way. The boat's captain, Mark Crockett, chatted amiably with the passengers as they boarded. The trip to Tangier Island -- across remarkably smooth waters today -- took an hour and five minutes, with the return trip taking the same amount of time. I estimate the boat was traveling at about 15 knots. The return trip left the Tangier dock at 3:30.
