Nostalgia in Spades
Aug 2019
I took my two grandsons (Age 8 & 10) to the FSM where we were made very welcome. I was amazed at the extent and quality of the exhibits and was delighted with the explanations and history related by Rob & Linda Bonner. My grandsons asked many questions, which is a sure sign they were absorbed and were answered with enthusiasm, which held their interest throughout. There are hands-on exhibits too for children and a well stocked gift shop and small cafe area. This is a great museum for Rochdale and, after refurbishment, it will be a place I know I will return to. My grandsons have already asked when we can visit again.

Great Museum About to Get Even Better
Sep 2019
This is a real gem - I was lucky enough to get to see the inside of the 1930s fire station on a Heritage Day tour before work to convert it to the new museum begins in earnest. The actual museum is currently housed in a building to the rear and it contains a number of very historical engines and other items relating to fire fighting with some authentic period settings rescued from the locality. There is a cafe and friendly staff to greet you. Opening hours are restricted but it is well worth taking the trouble to visit - or you might like to wait a year or so till the new enlarged museum opens. Either way, you won't be disappointed. The museum is located adjacent to Rochdale Railway Station.

Fascinating!
Aug 2019
Small museum but packed with original artefacts from various fire stations around the Manchester area. Very informative and interesting. Run by enthusiastic, ex-firemen volunteers, who are very keen to pass on their knowledge and experiences.
Many thanks to Bob, Linda and Les for a really enjoyable visit.

Small but crammed full of interesting items.
May 2019
There are many and varied items of interest stretching across hundreds of years in this small area. I would recommend having a guide to introduce you to the history of this hoard as it would be easy to bypass much of the collection. It is a credit to the dedicated work of the volunteers in finding and displaying in such an interesting way.

We went as a group and were given an excellent and informative guided tour. The volunteers were knowledgeable and friendly. Good history of the fire service, with exhibits to match.
We really enjoyed it, thanks to Bob and the other volunteers.
Will look forward to another visit when they move into their new venue.

A visit to the museum
Oct 2018 • Couples
I have been interested in Fire Service memorabilia all my life and have personal collection of over 250 fire service models from all over the World. Because of this I took a trip to the fire service museum in Rochdale. The fire museum is in the process of a major refurbishment in the coming months, with only a small display of vintage fire appliances and fire service equipment, this was well displayed and volunteer staff only to pleased to help with any queries. If people with an interest in the way our fire services protect us on a daily basis this well worth a visit. I will be returning when the museum is completed and I am sure that this would be a wonderful day out

Really interesting fun day out. We saw some amazing old engines that rum. The history of this place is great and the knowledge of the volunteers is fab. I think it’s great that most of these people are ex firemen and look after all these engines and restore them.
