As always when you book Go Ape, you book your slot and you're told to arrive 15 mins before for setup etc. My partner and I had booked for 2:30 and arrived at 2:15 as advised, and when we 'signed in' at the front desk, were told someone would be along in just a minute to get us set up. 3pm came and we were still there waiting and no communication at all. One of the other groups that had booked for 2:30 as well, went to find someone to talk to about this, but was brushed off with no real response. Not long after, a member of staff did come along and asked who was in the 2:30 group, and then said they would group the 2:30 and 3pm group together. My partner and I made it clear that that wasn't really acceptable as there were then going to be a lot of us on the course together (around 30+ people). They then proceeded with the 2:30 group first, and put the 3pm group right behind us, obviously knowing it would be unsafe to do that. We had no apology as to why we were waiting so long, and no idea for the reason - not good customer service in my opinion. We were led down to the training area, and the staff were not really paying attention to what people were doing or correcting them. I noticed a few people doing things incorrectly with their pullys etc (I have been to GoApe a number of times before) but nothing was said by the staff. When we got to The Hub, they were clearly in a rush, and we had to skip site 1, and go straight to site 2 (which I have asked for a refund for... as we have missed a quarter of the course). We also felt quite rushed. One of the group members ahead had got a bit stuck on one of the courses (completely fine as we appreciate not everyone is the same ability) but this caused a big back log behind us and the group after us had all caught up. We had a group of 6 young girls behind us with 2 accompanying adults, and what was really making me anxious and left me feeling quite unsafe was the fact they had not respect a) social-distancing or b) the fact you were only supposed to have 3 to a podium. They had piled up behind my partner and I on this one tree, that was aggressively swinging in the wind, so there was around 8 of us stood on this platform. I had told them that they needed to wait on the platform behind us, as someone up ahead was struggling. As we continued, this got more and more unsafe with 4 of them being on one course at the same time at one point. It was really frustrating and we expressed this to the adults they were with, but nothing was done. The member of staff witnessed us on 2 occasions saying this to the group, and we explicitly said to him "hey, we thought it was no more than 3 on a single platform?" and we got ignored. He just kept encouraging everyone across the platforms, rushing us. I have complained directly to Go Ape, but that was 2 weeks ago now, and despite a few weeks passing and a few chasers, I have had no response or even an acknowledgement. It puts me off ever spending money with you again, if your customer service is just so poor.

This is the first time we’ve left anything due to Covid risks but the setup is completely unsafe. Crowds of people at the little reception desk and everyone bunched together waiting for ages to get started. Not worth the risk frankly, Goape need to think carefully about how they manage the current situation.

The go ape experience is alot of fun and the young people working there seem very friendly, aware and careful about safety. We have been there a few times and will probably go again (although might choose a different location) There are 2 drawbacks though 1. On our visit, one party who had booked the same session was late. So despite getting there in good time, we started quite late (around 15mins) - We have never noticed this before, possibly always been lucky with promt fellow GoApers. 2. The system for leaving has changed - in the past you could join the road out from the GoApe carpark, now you have to drive in the opposite direction through the World of Adventures carpark and join a very long queue with all the World of Adventures people who have been to the main park. A 30 minute queue to leave a one hour activity seems a bit disproportionate. To add insult to injury, there is no signage to let you know that the system is different now, and on attempting to leave the usual way we were approached by a Chessington World of adventures gatekeeper who told us pointedly we had to " Join the back of the queue just like everyone else" - Nice! kids in the car and parents who have never knowingly queue jumped or indulged in any other antisocial behaviour being publicly admonished for following the familar routine. Kind of a sour taste to finish on.
