This is fantastic beach we went down quite early and had the whole beach to ourselves for quite some time, there are no holiday homes or caravan parks along the road that runs above it and no cafe, so if you want to stay for the day bring all your beach stuff and picnic with you. there is a small toilet at the car park. We did mange to find the dinosaur footprints on the beach.

My husband myself and my 2 year old son visited We got there around 1.30 to the car park over a hour you have to pay 4 pound for the carpark and walk down quite a few stairs there was an iceam van selling boards buckets £2 and spades £2 and icecreams £2.50.
There are toilets are the top next to the car park they were not nice at all but handy to have I suppose.
The tide went out about 4/5 and we looked for the famous iguadon footprint bit couldn't find it but lots of fossils and a fun area to explore.
The Sand is different colours which is interesting was lovely when the sun came out.
Had a lovely afternoon there.
Dogs allowed on one side of the beach.
Don't bring a pushchair or buggy.

We visited here twice in July. The beach has a National Trust car park park which we thought was reasonably priced and toilets nearby which were ok as far as public loos go but really handy. There was an ice cream van parked up here both times we visited which was nice and he sold body boards too which we purchased for the kids at £10 each. There are quite a few steps down to the beach which didn’t bother us but worth mentioning for people that it might. The sea was lovely and the bodyboarding was great fun, the boys even went off in search of fossils. Really peaceful, enjoyable beach and we would definitely visit again.

Here to look at Dino footprints and search for fossils. This is also a great for a regular beach day.
Beware if the parking machine (£4 for 4 hours) is broken - as it was when we were here - then paying by phone is a nightmare requiring literly dozens of key presses.
There are toilets here, but you would need to be desperate to use them - they are disgusting.

Great views and the climb down the steps for a walk along the beach are worth it. Visited during string winds and stunning views of stormy seas. Officious National Trust volunteer on car park patrol spoiled day somewhat by arguing over car park pass.

I visited this beach with my partner on a day where the temperature was in the high 20s, there was no wind and the sea was very calm.
The views from this beach are stunning to say the least. The sand is lovely and flat and the beach gently slopes into the sea.
We spent a few hours on the beach and a significant amount of time swimming in the sea.
Parking is free for National Trust members.

Lovely beach on the south coast of the Island. Wonderful sandy beach, but be aware of the rocks in the sea at high tide. Parking available at the top of cliff, but try to get here early if the weather is good as it does fill up quickly. Unfortunately toilets were also closed when we visited, luckily we had no need for them, but could see it being a problem if visiting with young children.

Quiet and least busy of all the main beaches that I visited. Simple toilets and reasonable paid car park, but there is free on road parking nearby. Different coloured sandy cliffs similar to Alum Bay. Dog friendly area on one side of beach.

Really nice dog friendly beach. No facilities (apart from a car park) but great place to watch the sun go down. Recommend water shoes as it is a little rocky.

Can anybody please help with the best beaches on IOW for rock pools? My little children love looking good for crabs and fishing. Thank you

Compton Beach has some pools and in parts there are rocky areas and others with fossils even. Watch our for incoming tide if they get too intent on just looking into pools as some rocky areas get surrounded by water quick as it comes in. Steps access to beach is best from one car park off the Military Road near Brook (NT "trust you" donation box and primitive loos). Bembridge and other parts of east Wight also good.

can you park on Military Road to avoid carparking chsrges?

You can park on the grass, along Military Road, as long as you don't obstruct the traffic or park dangerously. However the spaces available on the grass verge tend to get snapped up quickly, during the holiday periods. Others have the same idea, and get there early.....
Good luck!
