Nice and "educational" walk
Oct 2021
Spectacular woodland with a fairly dense network of paths. It was nice to see so many big and straight pine trees – quite unusual in England, these days. The Isle of Wight is a "stronghold" for red squirrels and there were some spots with information about these nice but less and less common animals – interesting and educational.

Good place for a run and red squirrel spotting 🐿
Sep 2021 • Friends
Popped to Pankhurst Forest for a quick run and to try and spot some of the infamous red squirrels. We were super lucky to see three while we were sat at the red squirrel hide. If you are in the area and looking for squirrels, this is the place. Free parking is a bonus too. Shame that the trails are not marked, it make it a little hard to navigate our run as we didn’t know the area.

Lovely hidden gem

we had a nice dog walk. Dog mess not an issue, we bagged ours and others appear to do the same. Lovely forest though care is needed if you do not want to get lost- paths not marked and it is deceptively big. They are circular so you will find your way back, eventually.

Disappointing
Jul 2019 • Couples
The Forestry Commission website bills this as an ‘exciting day out’ with cycling, walking trails and horse riding. None of these things were in evidence. It seemed more like a huge dog toilet. Dog poo and poo bags everywhere. There were no info boards to say where the walking trails were and the few paths we tried were sadly overgrown with nettles and brambles. Looked like the forest was hugely neglected. Not sure how you’re supposed to have a ‘day out’ when there are no facilities at all. This should be a real asset but is instead an eyesore. Such a shame.

Nice autumn dog walk
Nov 2018 • Couples
We went to Parkhurst Forest as a couple with our small dog a few days ago. The car park was easy to park in but I can imagine in the summer it must be quite a battle to find a space. There were big, fairly flat, wide paths that I imagine are probably wheelchair suitable (more so in the dry weather). But there are also little hidden paths within the trees. The walk was very nice and a good space to let your dog off lead. The only thing I would pick up on is that we only came across 1 dog poo bin of which was in the car park, this wasn’t a problem as most people (including us) would just carry it until they get back, but clearly a few people hadn’t managed to. It is a pet hate of mine to see bagged dog poo hidden in a bush or hanging on a tree as it takes a long time to break down and disappear. Maybe a few more bins dotted around may help with this.

Wheelchair walk!
Sep 2018 • Friends
Throughly enjoyed my ‘walk’ with friends- the wheelchair route to the hide could have better signage- but once found was very easy to use. I had read reviews about dog poo - but we did not see any- my own dog thoroughly enjoyed her walk. Would recommend

Tranquil spot
Sep 2018
Great place for a walk also great for dogs. There are picnic tables. There is a hide to try and see red squirrels. Which we did not see but have seen them at the Botanical Gardens. There is a route suitable for mobility scooters. The other paths are more challenging.

Peacful place to walk
Aug 2018 • Family
We had a hour or so walking here. Disappointing not to see any red squirrels but I am starting to doubt that there ARE any on the Isle of Wight.

Great place for a walk
Aug 2018 • Family
I was rather worried about other people's reviews that dog walkers don't pick up their dogs poo, but I didn't see any and had a very enjoyable walk through the forest, there's a Red squirrel hide and plenty of paths to take and also a picnic area.
