This is a really beautiful old village and well worth a visit.I'm sure it can get very crowded during the high season but we were there in September and fortunately there were few tourists around.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants and you will be spoilt for choice.
There is a free carpark just a five minute walk from the centre and there is also a useful tourist information centre.

Charming old stone village! This medieval village is very charming, I enjoy coming back every time I come on holiday to L’Escala. It’s a real pleasure to climb to the church through these many alleys that reach almost all of them. Some shops here and there but especially the whole story told by its old stones. Don’t miss the driveway to admire the sea view from the highest point in the village

I advise against visiting the "Nit de les espelmes"...a disaster! Very bad organization, lack of parking, overcrowding, no control of capacity or purchase of tickets, nor asked for them, endless lines, like sardines in cans. Impossible to see any music or dance act of so many people. Very commercial and full of tourists... a shame

Very beautiful village all in stone! Definitely worth it with small souvenirs if you want to bring back souvenirs. Go there in the morning if you have children because it gets very hot quickly! I recommend this place to absolutely do if you are passing through Costa Brava

To do in the late afternoon
Around 6pm tapas at the restaurant la vila
Then an ice cream and enjoy the alleys, scenery and shops
Preferences for vintage shop and ceramic shop
Avoid the shop with the sign "la vila emporda natural" tourist not welcome "gracias por Nada"

One of the most touristy medieval towns in the area and most crowded in the summer.
Free parking at the entrance that is a little small. Around regulated payment area.
The town is beautiful with cobblestone streets and houses.

Yes, in February it is very calm - with for a good part of the time only a couple of restaurants open, few people,... This is also worth appreciating! I remember it from the 60s and 70s, and the reconstruction has been greatly respected due to the originality of medieval times.

Really interesting place .. can feel the history at every turn. We visited this lovely venue as part of a TUI cruise excursion. Our tour guide was able to give in depth historical facts.
The village has great gift and craft shops. Watch out for ice cream venue. The village has ample parking. Public toilets

Charming, clean this citadel, but small enough, can be done in 1 hour. No big clear view around. A very good ice cream shop at the entrance and pretty church at the top. Without much emotion but we spent a sweet morning there. The advantage is that this citadel is next to the beach.

. Nice: YES
. Historical and Artistic Ensemble: YES
. Conservation: PERFECT. I had to read information about the town so as not to think that it was a 'lie' and artificial given how well restored it is.
. Is it worth it: To take a walk if there are not many people or it is too hot: YES
Keep in mind that it is elevated, no adaptability, no strollers or anything...parking downstairs.
Honestly: another Medieval town, it offers nothing more.
Important ceramist: Buxó. He was a genius. I met him more than 30 years ago and he was already a different person...to this day he is still around the town, lonely and...like a genius somewhat lost in his world.
Nearby is Peratallada, which...many things surprised me here.

Beste,
Ik las dat er aan de voet van Pals een brocante markt is.
Is dat ook op dinsdag of op een andere dag?
Alvast bedankt voor het antwoord.
Met vriendelijke groeten.
Sandy.

Hi, We're visiting Palamos via a cruise ship. My walking is limited, so I think a short time in Pals is about all my legs will handle What are the options for getting to/from Pals. Is a taxi best? How much would it probably be? Any other options / alternatives? Public transport?

Hi George
I'm certainly no expert and don't know much about the routes but you could try looking at Sarfa bus company, they may run some but I'm not sure . Wishing you a wonderful cruise .Our family are doing Barcelona, then traveling to Llafranc for a family wedding (from England! ) end of August.
Enjoy your holiday and have fun!

Best day to visit to take in the real flavour and cultural sites without paying for a guided tour?
Written May 21, 2017
If you want it to be quieter arrive early or late / avoid weekends. No need for a guide. There is some useful TI info available about the region. It's a good idea to visit the other villages in the area too eg Sa Tuna, Begur etc.
