El Museu de l'Anxova i la Sal is a little museum located in Sant Martí d'Empúries, a little town near the ruins of Empúries. It is in la Costa Brava, in Girona region, in Catalonia. Here you can learn about the fishing of sardine (a typical mediterranean fish) and the manufacturer of pure salt from the sea. Very little and interesting.

This is a small museum but very interesting. English texts were available. I really enjoyed it and there was a degree of interactive materials. Sadly, no tasting. It also houses a tourist information centre.

At first glance a museum about anchovies may not look interesting but after our visit I was enthralled about the history. On arrival the lady on the front desk recommended the route around the museum and set up the opening film to play in English for us. It gave a short overview of the anchovy industry in the area. An English translation booklet was provided to guide us around what turned out to be a delightful little museum dedicated to the hard working people who went out in all weathers to fish for anchovies and sardines. A good way to spend a couple of hours.
