It was an old factory to produce energy of light radiation , reflectors, beams effects; with machines and boiler rooms, transformed today in an interesting museum;
a coffee or a little snack are available.

Housed in 3 old industrial buildings we were pleasantly surprised by the standard of this Museum. A helpful Reception staff member gave us an overview & leaflet & we were able to wander at our own speed. It was very well interpreted with bilingual text, interesting artefacts and interactive displays and sounds. All linked with life-sized videos of past workers telling you their real oral history stories.
And a really imaginative restaurant to conclude an enjoyable morning. We recommend both experiences!

Excellent museum.

Overall well laid out modern museum that takes you through the history of the power station. All the information boards throughout provide the information in both Spanish and English. The videos of ex-employees that take about their memories are all in Spanish. Has a small cafe but was closed on the day we were there (but then again it was a Monday when it is normally closed and for a lot of Spain people a bridging day ahead of a public holiday).

Well worth the hour or so we spent going round.

This is a real power plant that has been out of commission for some time, and I applaud the initiative of converting it into a museum. The size of the building and the machinery and equipment are just amazing. I highly recommend visiting it, and then enjoying a snack or a drink at the outdoors restaurant. The museum is also available as a venue for events, such as wine tasting, concerts, etc. The building is huge and does not have heating in winter, so bring your jacket. Wednesdays afternoons, entrance is free!

Less a national museum than a history of energy in Ponferrada, it's worth visiting for the atmospheric main boiler room and its awesome metal installations from early last century. It's not hard to imagine the noise and heat of this powerhouse but there are sound and lighting effects anyway. I liked the train which blew smoke and the video testimonies from the workers. It also has labels in English which is unique for Ponferrada museums. It could be improved in many ways but it tells the basic story well enough and it is important to preserve these buildings as evidence of the seismic changes the industrial revolution brought.
