Update March 2017: walk from Valdemossa to Deia is possible avoiding the private property on west side of mountain. New Alpina 1:25k map marks the route as GR221. We did circular walk today from Valdemossa up the Coma des Cairats. We descended through the western end(Col de Son Gallard) and passed ranger in but with no more than a friendly... More

We did this hike from Deia and it was fantastic however, as with many places in Mallorca currently, a private landowner is attempting to control access on the Valldemossa side. We chanced it, met up with a local and his friend from Madrid who blagged their way past the guard at Valldemossa. If we'd not gone this way, the return... More

We were travelling by Public Bus from Palma. Be aware that there are far fewer busses from Deia to Palma than from Validemossa to Palma and they get full so if you hope to pick up a bus back from Deia you ought to factor in a taxi ride back @ $40 + in case they are full. We started... More

Update on what has already been written. So, yes, difficult, beautiful hike over interesting terrain. If you start in Valldemosa give yourself at least 4 hrs maybe 5 with time to get lost and not run out of daylight (stressful) The hike is at the end of Ses Oliveres street at the chain. They do control how many visitors so... More

I wanted to write about the adorable town of Valldemossa but I could not find the link of the town. My husband and I stayed in the wonderful hotel El Encinar- I wrote a special review for them already- and we learned that it is pretty treacherous to try to hike from that end if your are not an experience... We didn't actually walk the classic route but rather Valldemossa -> Deia but you still get to see the amazing scenery from almost 1000m height. The starting point can take a little bit to find, and the walk itself is a challenge but it's all worth it when you 5 hours later arrive in Deia and order a well earned... More

Ignore any advice from the tourist office. Park on the road leading up to the check in post below the track up to Ermita cave and Pla des Pouet. Cross over the chain by the roadside zed up the track 500 to the hut and ranger. Great English, German, Spanish from the guy we met.He will advise on your route,... More

A stunningly beautiful walk. Please note the local tourist office in Valledemossa tells you this walking route is closed, which isn't true. There is conservation work underway and their are controlling how many people take each route, but not stopping you, just suggesting preferred routes.

This is an 11km, 4 hour round trip from Valldemossa up to the mountains (approx. 500m - 600m altitude difference). Once the top of the Archduke's Riding Way is reached the views are indeed spectactular and worthwhile the hike. Make sure that you start early enough to avoid the mid-day heat, bring enough water with you (shade is only available... More
