Off the beaten tourist track

We were staying for a week in Paguera but most days of our stay we attempted to visit somewhere else in Majorca that we had not previously visited in previous holidays on the island.

We took the bus from Paguera to Palma and then the train from Palma to Manacor. We really like the trains on Majorca as in our experience they represent good value for money, are clean, reliable, and never too busy.

For all that we visited on a Saturday Manacor proved to be much quieter than we expected with many fewer people out and about than in Palma. We visited a few shops where we made some purchases, had a very good lunch in an Italian restaurant - Ill Bristrot, and after a couple of hours took the train back to Palma. There really is'nt that much for tourists to see. Luckily I had picked up a map of Manacor on our arrival at the railway station as we got well and truly lost at one point. The maze of narrow streets makes it difficult to see tall reference points like church towers but thankfully all streets carry clear names and the friendly staff in a bar that we sought directions from got us back to the railway station in time for the train we wanted.

The Rafa Experience was Fairly Impressive, but the rest of this town is actually worth Avoiding

The town is outdated, dirty, likely one of the more dangerous places on the entire island and the shopping is nothing to write home about. They will lure you here with grandiose illusions of something that does not exist. Skip it. Your hotel will be more exciting.

Hugely disappointing

Went to Manacor on a Monday morning to have a walk around the biggest and busiest market. A huge waste of time. Market only selling useless, cheap tat. Lots of fake designer handbags and watches in plastic cases. Local people we found to be generally rude and with little social etiquette or spacial awareness. Impossible to navigate with a buggy or small child as people seem to just want to be difficult and get in the way. For lovely markets try Palma, Pollenca or Santanyi. Beautiful places with nice stalls selling things that don't look like they've come off the back of a lorry. Would never return to Manacor.

Church !!!
Jun 2018 • Couples
One of the best churches in Majorca. A must see. make sure you go inside you don't regret it. Some really beautiful architecture and beautiful stained glass windows. A really interesting back section with a shrine to the dead, lots of original artwork all depicting god being seen by the dying and lots of baby funeral attire hung in glass boxes. Stunningly morbid !!!

Lovely town
Apr 2018 • Solo
Walked into the town from Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy and found it was a lovely typical Spanish village.
Lots of cafes to sit and watch the world go by and listen to the locals and relax.

I think that the most important thing to remember about Manacor is that it is a regular Spanish city not really a tourist attraction.

At the time of my visit the cathedral was closed so unable to say more than it looks interesting!

There is a cluster of shops in that area which allow for shopping that has a real, rather than tourist driven, choice.

The market was fairly standard with a mix of choice aimed at both tourists and locals.

Nice town

Nice church and old town but nothing very special. Silent lazy town, you can visit if are around, to sit for a coffee or wine.
