This has been a massive addition to the area in recent years. Runs for miles and it’s relatively quite during Covid. Most people respect the mask rules but some offenders. That said it’s about 8 ft wide so you can avoid others. Nice to jog on the wooden areas. Recommended.

My husband and I are keen walkers and we had never previously visited this area .
We noticed that there were small signs saying Senda Litoral along the coast near to Fuengirola and they continued ( alongside the main road) to Cala Mijas, which is where we saw a notice board promoting the 7 km long beachside boardwalk .
The boardwalk is super, we visited twice and on both occasions there were ladies busily sweeping away any sand that had blown on there during the night.
As previous posters have said, there are lots of toilets and places to stop for a drink ( even in December)
It appears that the actual Senda Litoral actually goes on for many miles with the boardwalk only being a part of it. I am sure that any posters more familiar with the area will be able to elaborate on this.

This is more commonly just called the boardwalk. They have been adding to it and improving it over the past few years. Great credit to whoever backed this. Beautiful to walk, jog, dog walk (cycling not permitted). Views great. Lots of facilities and bars etc.

Hubby and I stayed in a villa on the Riviera Del Sol in Mijas Costa In March 2017 - I highly recommend this little place if you're looking for peace and quiet by the way - Anyway back to the boardwalk, this walk takes you past beaches galore (the sea here is so clear and the views are beautiful) but the very best thing for hubby and I were the rock pools! A very enjoyable couple of hours picking our way along the beach on the way home, delving into what must be hundreds of little microcosms searching for lord knows what and trying to get photos of sea birds (no it's not a penguin Hubby dearest) We can't wait to go back and explore the other side of the coastline towards Calahonda - such a surprise to find so many patches of naturally diverse coastline, clean, quiet (bear in mind the time of year) and relaxing.

I had heard quite a lot about this walkway and decided I needed to find out what it was all about for myself. There are a couple of access points...for me I find the best parking is by the Las Mimosas apartment complex in La Cala and then I start walking from the nearby El Bombo beach. I have to say I was super surprised that the Mijas Town Hall had invested money into or raised money for this project as my first thought was that there were probably more urgent projects that were needed. How wrong was I !...Having walked the 7 kms walkway along the beachfront from La Cala to Calahonda and back again...( a couple of times now)...I can see how this walkway has brought a new lease of life to La Cala and provides an invaluable facility for so many people. Walking helps keep people healthy and promotes friendship and a sense of community. On any given day you can see all types of people from young runners to great grandmothers having a stroll, kiddies on their bikes, teenagers on skateboards, rollerbladers...and everyone out just enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. The Senda Litoral has really transformed both the area and the lifestyle of local residents and tourists. Well done to Mijas townhall...I can't wait to get out and walk again.

On the Costa Del Sol, outside of the main coastal towns, all of which have their own sea front promenades, unless you’re willing to walk long distances on the sand and over rocky outcrops, there’s always been a problem if you’ve wanted to walk along the coast. However, we understand that’s all changing. We’ve read there’s a plan to have a continuous walkway from Estepona all the way to Fuengirola and beyond. Mijas town council has been working hard this past 12 months to complete their section of the coastal pathway. It’s going to be a real asset for the area once it’s finally finished. This is a link to the promotional video about the boardwalk: https://vimeo.com/111368291
As at the end of January 2015, the Mijas section of boardwalk from La Cala to Riveria is complete, then there’s a gap through part of Calahonda until you get to Chiringuito El Capricho, after which it runs all the way to the municipality border with Marbella where it stops suddenly, just a few hundred metres before you get to the little port of Cabopino. As it’s such a short stretch, it’s a shame that Marbella town council couldn’t have done their bit for this section of walkway at the same time so that it goes right up the port.
If you like strolling by the sea but away from the sand then this boardwalk is highly recommended.

I had the most fabulous walk today on the Senda Litoral - The Boardwalk.
Starting from El Torreon in La Cala Village it took 60 minutes to walk to El Capricho in Calahonda..and that was at a reasonable pace and taking in the views along the way.
It is lovely to see how much the Mijas Town Hall has invested in this facility and it has completely opened up the space and made it accessible for people of all ages.
There are public toilets along the way so you won't get caught out and many of the bars and restaurants have worked on improving their seating options and so you can stop off and have a coffee along the way.
However, do make sure you wear flat, comfortable shoes, slap on the sunscreen and wear a hat and sunglasses as there is no shade along the way.

Without doubt this is one of the highlights of our annual winter break in this lovely part of the world. We love walking along this boardwalk, watching the many birds on the rocks (even saw a kestrel this time!) and last year spotted some dolphins in the ocean near the El Oceano. We park in La Cala just along from the tower, or at Riviera if we fancy doing the walk in reverse. You must pop into the Garden Bar en route - sitting having a meal and a drink in the sunshine overlooking the Med can't be beaten in my book!

Please can you tell us exactly where to access the starting point and where to park. We will be driving from Club La Costa outside Fuengirola. Can we walk to the start or do we need to drive there. Thanks

it starts by the Torrens in La Cala and goes to Calahonda (near Dona Lola). There is street parking in La Cala or park on the fairground. A walk to the end and back is about 8k. There are adequate bars dotted along the boardwalk - Personally, I would recommend 'The Garden Bar'.

Hi
Does anybody know when the gap in the middle around Doña Lola is to be worked on/completed?
Will be wonderful when this happens.
Also does anybody know whether it is intended to extend Cabopina walkway to Marbella?

It's about 18km from La Cala to the centre of Marbella; I know because I ended up walking it all one day in Feb this year.
The sign in La Cala says something like 6 and a bit km to Marbella, but that's actual to where the Mijas administrative district ends going along the beach and the Marbella administration district begins.
That's just before you get to Cabopino and another 12km to the centre of Marbella.
