An amazing chapel built into the rocks on the shore of the beach. It seemed the chapel gets surrounded on a high tide. A very beautiful spot with the waves crashing against the rocks. Free to visit inside but no photos are allowed. The service in the local bar was appalling unfortunately.

Small beautiful Christian chapel set in a cliff on the beach of Miramar. At high tide, especially in the Winter, it is often isolated from the land by the sea that surrounds it. Clearly worth a visit, especially at sunrise or sunset. Easily accessible (about 15 minutes) from the center of Porto by train (S. Bento station), exit at Miramar station and then just a short walk to the beach. Related to witchcraft that supposedly occur in its neighborhood. At the rear there is a mark on the stone similar to an ox footprint to which they attribute many fanciful explanations, one attributed to the foot of the meek ox allegedly that comforted Jesus in the manger.

I visited porto for 4 days and decided to make a trip down the coast for one them, I stopped at Miramar which is a small pretty beach town which was home to this beautiful church on the beach. With the strong waves crashing onto the rocks, this was a sight of beauty and really makes you appreciate your decision to venture out of the city. It is a surreal atmosphere and a trip that i highly recommend.

We wanted to see the sunset. So we waited. But the horizon was so clouded that we just sat on the rock and drank the beer enjoying the moment and it was worth everything. After few days we returned and on that cloudless day we experienced one of the best sunsets in my life.

A wonderful place 30minutes from Porto (and the return ticket cost us only €2), take the one stop after Miramar and walk among the sand dunes to it, it is a 20minute walk along the ocean - wonderful. And then when you get to Miramar you will be stunned by the beauty of this symbiosis of the chapel and the ocean... We were lucky to be there just as the day was coming to an end - seeing the sun 'drown' in the ocean is something unspeakably beautiful...

I went by bike on June and arrived at 8AM; the place was already crowded. If you want to take the famous pic alone, if you gou during summer, it is better to arrive before 7AM.
You arrive, take the pic and that's it, nothing else to visit or do.

This is the most beautiful beach in Porto area!
It's a romantic and magical place where many couples go on their marriage day to take photos.
When the sea level rise, the church is surrounding by the sea.

Took the rain to see this beauty spot and overshot by two stations (Watch out, there's trains stopping at all the stations and trains that only stop at the major ones). Take a train that stops at Miramar!!! So we ended up walking back around 6 kilometers to the chapel from Espinho. Turned out to be a lovely beach walk on a trail made of wooden planks which is quite popular with local walkers. There are numerous beach bars on the way. Only downside was the plastic trash liberally sprinkled throughout the dunes.
Chapel itself is nothing special, but the setting is everything we wished for.

Really beautiful place with a stunning view of the ocean. It's far away from the Porto city center, so it's better to rent a car or use some kind of public transport to get there
