RESERVATION REQUIRED. Graham’s Port is owned and managed by the Symington family, ten of whom work in the company (four from the 4th generation and six from the 5th generation of Port producers). They and their ancestors have made some of the greatest Port Wines of all. The magnificent Graham’s cellars were built in 1890 and contain a priceless collection of Port ageing in seasoned oak cascks and in bottle. Visits can only be made by prior appointment so that you will be met on arrival and shown around the cellars by a highly trained guide in the language of your preference.

One of the better Port Lodges up the hill not to be missed
W & J Graham’s was established in 1820 and is run by the fourth and fifth generations of the Symington Family. They are also considered a leader in the world of Port. Graham’s cellars were built in 1890 in Gaia. Visitors here get a guided tour of their immense cellar. This is followed by a walk-through of their impressive historical collection of vintage Ports. After the tour, there is a tasting of three Ports. I recommend you purchase a charcuterie and a glass of your favorite Port to enjoy on their large balcony overlooking the river.

    Good afternoon at W & J Grahams.
We reached Porto on way to Algarve. We had driven along the Douro valley and had passed many fantastic views of the various vineyards, both large and small. Plus beautifully patterned olive groves visible from the twisting and turning road around the hills. On arrival we saw the tour available at W & J Grahams. We walked .9mile as taking car seemed worse. Upon arrival were meet by an extremely helpful receptionist who gave us an option of a tour in English as we had not booked previously. This was the only tour available, in English, at the time we arrived on that day so understandable. The tour included a tasting of 3 different Ports described in the tour. We payed €45 per person for the vintage tour with port tasting. Very enjoyable and lots of delicious port. A basic tour costs €17 but think this should be booked in advance. Lots of other options available but check website. We thoroughly recommend this place to visit as imformative and gives a very good understanding of the different processes needed to make the drinks we love .

Really nice place for a Port visit
While we weren't able to get on a tour of the place, as they were sold out, we were able to get a tasting at Grahams, as well as a tapas style lunch in their bar. It is a beautiful place, the tapas style food surprised us immensely; the menu was very small and half of the dishes were not available, but what they did have, was really, really good! At Grahams we were primarily impressed with the older (and more expensive) tawnies. But definitely worth a visit!

    The very best port experience
This was the highlight of our trip. Arriving a little early for our tour we headed to the bar for a drink and some nibbles. There the incredible experience started Ricardo the waiter was a delight recommending a Portuguese pink fizz and assuring us not to worry as we only had limited time before our tour. The tour was insightful and our tasting was great in a beautiful room where we shared Porto highlights. We have a whole new appreciation for port. Tawny is our favourite particularly paired with dark orange truffles! We will recommend to Grahams to anyone visiting Porto, it was like being in a vineyard in the middle of a city. Note long steep walk up - but swing past the cultural area on the way. We will definitely return to lunch in the restaurant.

    Our first introduction to port!
We booked this tour on our first day in Porto to ease us through the jet lag and enjoy our first introduction to Port and it did not disappoint! The tour was very informative and interesting. We were able to tour the cellars and learn about port making before trying some! The port was delicious and of course we had to purchase some. Would highly recommend this tour to others.

    Highlight of our Porto trip.
Was recommended this tour by a friend who when living in Porto visited them all and said this one was by far the best. We were anything but disappointed, our guide was knowledgeable and interesting, walking amongst the port maturing in barrels was inspiring and maybe just a little spooky. Then through to tasting, the ports were really nice and our guide helped with useful advice and information as we went through them. There was an opportunity to buy extra tasters which we did trying a 40yr old tawny, a bottle of which would be way out of my budget but the glass was worth every penny, then finished the day with a trip through their shop and most of our Christmas presents were sorted.

Informative tour of one of the leading port brands
As a port lover but not knowing too much about the process of producing the wine we found this very informative. Tours take place in different languages. We were in a group of around 15 people. Our guide took us through the port cellars explaining the process and the difference between varying types of port. The tour takes about an hour after which you go to the tasting room. There are different price brackets as you book giving you the chance to taste older ports if you wish. As a minimum for €25, you get to taste a young Ruby port, a late bottled vintage and a 10 year old tawny. Extra glasses of other wine types can be purchased at a reasonable cost. We sampled a 20 year old Tawny by way of contrast. Our guide stayed for the tasting offering extra information as we sampled the different glasses. It was all very unrushed and nothing was too much trouble. After buying a bottle in the shop we had been there over 2 1/2 hours. All very impressive and one of the highlights of our trip to Porto.

Great intro to port wine and tasting
Beautiful location overlooking the river. We did the tour with tasting. Our guide took us thru the cellars and explained the diff between ports followed by a guided tasting. You choose your tasting and we chose one that included a pairing, so we had 3 ports with chocolate, cheese and a pastel de nada pastry. Wonderful way to spend a few hours!

    Fantastic tasting experience
We just did the wine tasting and had the best experience. Gonachalo (apologies if we spelt this incorrectly) was extremely knowledgeable and very welcoming. We learnt so much from his explanation of the port, we would recommend the pairing option of the cheese and chocolate. Thank you

This was by far our favorite port tasting in Portugal. The tour was great (but if you’re looking for more history and process, there are better informational tours). You got to see all of the port in the casks and the private collection of vintage ports of the owner. We also did one of the Vintage Room tastings for their Tawny port (€50 each). It was totally worth it.

This evening was a trip highlight for us. The tour was very interesting ( I didn't know much about ports) the guide was entertaining and knowledgeable. The tasting was fun and informative, we tasted a broad range of ports from 10yo to 40yo along with 1980,1994 and 2000 vintage ports. As a novice when you taste them in a series you can appreciate their different qualities. Then there was the meal which was perfect. The menu was creative and delicious. The presentation of all the courses was as attractive as it was delicious. The entire evening was worth the hefty price tag

Highly recommended by friends and the hotel staff, the Graham’s Porto Tasting Tour is a very worthwhile experience. The facility is really beautiful and the generational story of the family that owns this private enterprise is interesting. Porto is pretty complicated but the videos, exhibits and staff explain how the wine is made, how to differentiate between Porto types and what each variant tastes like. Here’s some good advice relating to purchasing the tasting experience. If you have money to burn and feel that your palate is sophisticated, then go ahead and buy the vintage tasting options. If you are like me, and think all Porto tastes the same, then go for the inexpensive tasting option and just enjoy the experience. The prices vary from 14 Euro to over 100 Euro. We went in the late afternoon and ended our tasting with a cheese tray which made for a very pleasant light dinner.

We took 2 of the €45 vintage tours (my boyfriend and I shared the 6 glasses to try more Ports)
The tour is super worth it, Francisca Braga was our guide and she explained everything extremely well, answered all our questions and listened to our tasting experience.
The vintage room was impressive!!! The decoration is beautiful and it makes you feel the history of the family.
The restaurant and bar is super beautiful as well. After the tour we had 2 more drinks in the terrace, the view was breathtaking.
If you come to Porto, please don’t miss this tour!!

The visitors center is recently renovated and really beautiful. We did the last English tour of the day, 16:45. Advance reservations are required. While you wait for the tour to begin, you can browse their interesting museum. There is a short film, then a tour of barrel ageing areas and cellars with vintages back to 1868. The price of your ticket depends on the ports you want to taste. My husband chose the premium red, I chose the white, so that we could share. It is even possible to order a glass of 1882 port at 500E! We were the last to leave as we wanted to ask questions and look at more displays - staff let us look, which was very nice, no rush. After the tasting you exit through the shop. From there you can go right into the bar of Vinum, which opens at 7pm.

A fun, impressive, and informative tour. Our tour guide was enthusiastic, knowledgable, and spoke perfect English. We learned an enormous amount about the history of Port, the company, and the process of making it. I strongly recommend the premium Tawny tasting following the tour as this offers great value. I would also suggest booking lunch at Vinum to follow the tasting.

Interesting tour and the guide was very informative, but after going to the Douro Valley and seeing the small family run quintas, it just wasn't as good as their tours and tastings. We can't compare it to the other lodges ad this was the only one we did, but if you have the chance to either go to nova de gaia for the day or do a tour of the douro Valley then go to the valley instead! If not Grahams was very nice. Lovely views from
the tasting room. Lovely setting in its gardens.
You have to email and book in advance. The price depends on your tasting. Our cost €18.50 for the basic package which was two Ruby ports and a ten year old tawny. This was fine for us as we prefer Ruby's, but for port officianados they have more expensive tasting packages. Although everything they have in the tasting packages plus others they sell by the glass so we bought others we wanted to try as well. White port started at €3 for a glass and they had a vintage of the day for €10/glass.
We found the things they sold in the shop cheaper in balhao market. Not necessarily the fancy stuff but the gift set of four small bottles wad €13 in balhao and €15 at Grahams.

Dear guest, Thank you for your comments on Trip Advisor. Your views are very important to us and it is a real pleasure to know that you enjoyed your visit. Symington Family Estates has the privilege of having 3 visitors centers: Quinta do Bonfim in Douro Valley and two open lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia which are able to provide you with a full port experience. The prices we charge for our products are in line with prices in Portugal as far as possible. We hope to receive you and your family and friends again in the future. You will always be very welcome. A great little tour with a very knowledgeable young woman who was able to tell us most of the history and knew her Ports! The port tasting was fabulous, just enough to give you a good idea of what each tastes like. We were able to buy some cheese and chocolate for a reasonable price to accompany our tastings. A long walk uphill so make sure you have comfy shoes. Right across the other side of Porto, luckily for us the weather was exceptional. Recommended by a friend, this is probably the best place to go for port tasting in Porto.

We were a group of about 12 for the English speaking tour. Marco was our guide and he was informative, chatty and knowledgeable. We arrived earlier so were able to browse the museum on the ground floor before watching the video and touring the cellars. Our group was a good size. It was the right amount of facts with some fun woven it. We had the tawny and ruby tasting, which with the tour and a discount for eating lunch at Vinum, was 54 euros. The tasting room is well laid out and Marco guided us through the wines carefully. Thoroughly enjoyable, although drinking port at 12.30 does require an afternoon nap!
