Rich history in this "cave", showing all the process and tradition of Taylor's port wine. The tour can be made at you own pace (I recommend to bring your own earphones with cable).

The tasting was good but a bit pricey if you wanted to prove other wines (comparing with other caves)

The lady at the entrace who gives you the device and takes your ticket could be a little gentler with older people.

We had time for one port cellar so went with one of the tourist or most obvious ones. Very informative 90 mins with 3 port tastings amongst the peacocks at the end in the garden, worth 15 euros each and time well spent. If we came again I believe the smaller ones can give a more intimate experience but for a starting point of port education it ticked the boxes and I would recommend.

Taylor’s Port Lodge offers an excellent audio tour for 15 euros which carefully explains port production. The self-guided tour is about an hour long and ends with glasses of a white aperitif-style port and a ruby vintage port. The setting is lovely. There is a fine dining restaurant here which offers a lovely several course lunch for about 40 euros. The setting is high above the river and the restaurant view is spectacular.

First of all: Clients can't be let waiting for far more than fifteen minutes to simply get bread and olive oil with vinegar on the table. In all, we arrived at the restaurant at around 1.30pm and finished 4 o'clock was long gone! And we had no aperitifs ordered.
Second: Such a "distinct" restaurant can not have young staff serving where one noticed they must have come out of hotel school not very long ago! One gets far better service on dozens of top restaurants here in the bigger Porto area and especially far quicker and cheaper!
Third: One of the fish dishes was not properly cooked, it still showed a bit of blood on the inside, when cutting with the knife!
Fourth: The "cerise sur le gâteau" (the "cherry on the top of the cake") was when one of us ordered a Tawny port and some minutes later a young woman came, a bit shy, saying: "Sorry, just to be sure... did you ask a tonic water or a gin tonic?" I( exploded, really! I yelled at her: "In this restaurant full of "stars and "niveau chic" you don't know what a Tawny is and mix the word with tonic???"
Never ever again!
Btw, do you know now how to improve your service??

I was very disappointed with our visit - I have been meaning to go there for ages but never got the chance when I’ve been in Portugal previously.

The setting is beautiful - the garden is pleasant & the rooster & peacock add an element of interest. Unfortunately, the service was terrible.

We were ignored from arrival.
We just looked around the shop as the waiters weren’t paying us attention. When we approached the counter to find out the process for a tasting, we were ignored. Waiters kept walking around us and not checking if we needed help.
We settled down outside & people that arrived after us were served first. They had their drinks before we got service.

When served, we were just asked in Portuguese what we wanted from the menu. It was as if they didn’t want our money - so we didn’t waste it there.

We weren’t asked if we understood & nothing was explained to us & nothing was recommended. We heard the waiter explaining things at other tables in English.

We think they thought we were local because we were speaking Portuguese. I really hope that’s not how the locals are treated.

Another thing I didn’t appreciate was the request for a 10% tip if we liked the service. We obviously didn’t tip anything. Portugal isn’t really a place you tip huge amounts if at all… and asking for a 10% tip is a bit cheeky in my opinion.

We won’t be returning. 😞

Taylor Fladgate port lodge is a premium experience, but also feels like they are extracting money from you. We had the tasting menu lunch which was very good, but also very expensive 177 euro imcluding water. Then, we went to the tasting room, where we paid to taste vintage port. We bought three bottles of vintage port. Then we got to the caves where they insisted on another fee to walk through the cellars. This was after we had already spent 400 euros at this establishment. When i protested, their response was that every room os a separate experience and charged separately.

Incredible experience of Taylor's Port.
First, you can enjoy an interesting tour through the display rooms and cellar at the property, learning in an appropriate level of detail about what Porto is famous for!
Very flexible timings for the tour with no allocated time slot as such, and not too crowded, so you could enjoy the experience without any pressures.
Very well organised with headsets guiding you through the process, with a variety of media available to learn about the port making process and history.
Staff were very friendly too.
At the end of the tour, you enter a beautiful terraced outside dining area, where you can enjoy a relaxing tasting of port of your choice, as well as a selection of nibbles and foods to complement the experience. The views are beautiful from this spot but are said to be even better for those who wish to try the on-property restaurant, which is a higher-end restaurant.
There is also a good gift shop on site.

I’m not a true port fan, but visited with my husband who is, and I can genuinely say it was fantastic, not only did I learn so much I discovered ports I actually enjoyed!!
It’s a leisurely tour at your pace, we so much to see absolutely fascinating, the tasting happens in a gorgeous garden over looking Porto, so peaceful and relaxing although we visited at the end of March so I can’t say what the busy summer months would be like.
We also treated ourselves to the port tasting menu in the very fancy restaurant, which was such an experience, every dish was fully explained and paired with an appropriate port we spend over 2hours enjoying the food, port and stunning view.
Not a restaurant for children though.

After a strenuous walk up to the location it did not disappoint.
Beautiful entrance and to see our late Queens Royal Warrant was all the more poignant.

Upon entering the beautiful building we were greeted and shown to the start of the tour. Everything was explained then off we went with our audio tour into the cellars and museum.

Very informative and some hands on areas. Amazing to see the Port filled casks and kegs with the most incredible smells of port in the air.

Once you finish the tour you exit to the courtyard, garden and restaurant area where you sit and sample two of the Ports.

It was a beautiful warm day so we sat and enjoyed ours in the garden with the Peacocks and Cockerels wandering around freely.

Terrific value and would highly recommend it.

We were forewarned by reviews that the self guided tour with the audiosticks could take up to two hours--and it did, and we loved it! I am a certified wino in the industry and was fascinated. Hubby goes along for the ride and he also was fascinated. So if you want a quick tour with tasting this is not your place. But if you want an indepth tour that includes everything from the capacity of the vats and how they are made to the rocks and growing process to the history of the British influence on the port industry, you are in the right place. The only complaint I had was they will take a photo of you in front of a gigantic vat, but when emailed it has some advertising down the side and through hubby which makes it unusable. Oh well.

Then the tasting comes with two basic ports, an LBV and a white. But their tasting menu provided numerous other options and we ended up with 4 or 5 more. We ended up with both a vertical tasting of vintage ports from the same vineyard and a lateral tasting of vintage ports from different vineyards, plus a 20 year tawny. While it took a few minutes in their gorgeous garden seating area for a server to approach us, after that service was perfect. The server brought all bottles with the samples so we could photograph and read the bottles (without us even asking). We also got the cheese tray. A beautiful day in the garden to taste after a great tour.
