    Great Tour.
I did this and one other small wine cellar tour. It was interesting to go to both and I’m glad I did. Caleb was interesting in that the port cellars were large. They are a large company so it was interesting to see the large barrels. And they had many different varieties of wine that they gave information about. The tasting was only two samples, but both were good. If you wanted to try more you would have had to go to their bar/restaurant and pay for a glass. Overall good tour.

    Gaia’s Historic Port Brand
An excellent, informal tour of one of Gaia’s historic port makers. Carla did a brilliant job dissecting its history, how port is made and the brands importance to the drink. We opted for an exclusive tasting at the end and ended up buying two of the three ports on tasting. Rose port?! Who knew!

Yo ho ho and a glass of port.
We enjoyed the tour but a lot of the interactive stuff in the museum wasn't working. We paid extra to have a chocolate tasting with the port wine and that is the way to go. First of all you get taken to a more private tasting area where you are basically by yourself and then you have someone explain everything to you and answer all your questions. For the few dollars more the elevated experience was well worth it. You also get a discount in their shop.

A very enjoyable tour and tasting.
Our very knowledgeable guide Carla did a great job of explaining the whole process - how the wine is produced in the Douro valley and moved to Porto to be aged, how it is analysed and kept, the best way to serve it and what to accompany the different types. It was very informative, and we enjoyed the ports we tasted very much. Thank you Carla for a great experience.

    Great choice
Well worth a visit, even though it was a shortish tour, it was very informative. The guide took questions and was very professional. Excellent value for money. Better than tour than the Doura valley one we did.

    good introduction
Enjoyed drinks here that were very good. Our server demonstrated good knowledge of the various ports. I recommend a flight if you don't know what you like and a generous porto tonico if you like white port. You can see part of the operation inside where the store part is located.

    Good Wine Tour and Tasting
Lots of wineries to choose from for a tour and tasting. I booked the tasting online in advance and highly recommend you do the same, as when I arrived, all the tours for the whole day were sold out. I read online that the tour takes about 45 minutes, so I booked dinner reservations with that in mind. The tour ended up taking longer than that, so my tasting was done quicker than others around me (lol) as I needed to meet my boyfriend at dinner. I would recommend planning for at least an hour and 15 minutes for this tour. The tour itself was good, very educational about the different wines. The tasting was also good, the wines were very tasty.

    Calem
We were in Vila Nova with some time on our hands and realized we’d be remiss if we didn’t take a Port tour. We chose Calem and weren’t disappointed. Walk up price for the short English tour was about 17 euros. Had to be at max 10 other folks in the tour. The tour itself was fine! A large area of videos, maps, and history was provided before the start of the tour. We did the walk thru of the aging barrels, then went up stairs to the tasting room. It was great. Had a couple glasses of port. We weren’t pressured to leave. The exit was through their port store where we proceeded to purchase six bottles which are being shipped home.

Good experience, don’t pay for extras
Paid for two tickets for the tour, wine with cheese and chocolate tasting at $45 each. The tour was about 15-20 minutes and informative. The cheese and chocolates mixed with Porto was delicious but did not equal the value of the ticket. It was a simple tasting and it tasted great but $100 later for 30-40 minutes and a couple pieces of cheese and chocolate is not necessary. You will be more than satisfied paying for a simple tour and tasting without the extras!

    A great tour
We did a Wine Tour at Càlem. It was off- season and we went for the first tour at 10am, there was just myself and my sister with 2 other people on a tour. The guide was really great, he gave us lots of information and answered all our questions. We had the English tour but they do several languages. The tour starts as a self-led wander around the museum then you're led through the cellar by the guide. Our booking was 22 euros each and we booked it prior to arriving via their website. It included wine tasting with 3 wines. Overall we really enjoyed ourselves and our guide was friendly and chatty, which made the experience better.

Was in a group of 70-80 years old guests, scheduled for a short visit with port tastings. Staff was informed in advance of our shortage of time, yet let us in with a significant delay, giving away our time slot to another group. We needed to rush the whole tour, even more, only to find that the tasting table was not yet prepared for us. Rushing again to the exit, we were blocked by a rude young guy of the staff, who not only refused to assist us, but made fun of us, and insisted to pass each and every single one of us in the counting machine - which did not work alright, spoke with an inappropriate manner, argued and defy of calling his manager. We did not arrive on time at the next point of our tour. People felt insulted and abused. It seems that this place is no longer worth the prestige of the past, hiring unprofessional staff, and charging way much for so little. This city is filled with much more respected establishments.

Unfortunately the group was too big (38 people) and the tour was very rushed. The guide started talking before everyone was able to squeeze into the space so unless you were at the front you missed lots of information and had no time to look at the displays in the museum though this was meant to be included in the price. The wine was great, but overall the tour was very disappointing and I would not recommend it.

45 people on a tour in a cramped area, interesting but disappointing. I wouldn't recommend it. The choice of Ports was limited and you have to Pay Pay Pay if you want to experience other vintages... perhaps a smaller amount to get a taste and flavour and more people will buy in the Shop, the 2 we tasted were average. we have bought better from Tesco or Morrisons. No crackers or savoury items to cut through or enhance the flavour.. if you want these, Pay Pay Pay. I think i've made my point.. shop around there are many tours in the area perhaps they will be better.

It could have been a memorable and wonderful experience if we had been able to hear the guide (her microphone set did not work properly and the group of 45 persons was too big in order for us to get close to the guide and understand her better). Pretty disappointing.
But the worst came to the tasting .
We were invited in the room, the tables already prepared with 3 glasses pro each person and only then our guide asked who is actually having Premium ticket. Only few of us had (we did not know about this, nor that an upgrade would have been possible before tour starting), so she controlled all our tickets and literally took all the glasses from the persons who did not have Premium ticket.
Absolutely unprofessional, humiliating and without any consideration for the customers. She should have checked before, or just let it be. Not taking the glasses while yelling "don't drink, you are not allowed to drink!". And she has not even apologized for all this unpleasant situation.
The only positive aspect was the tasty wine (we then received 2 glasses each).
I would not recommend this cellar. Certainly there are other cellars in Porto, which respect their customers.

22 Euros each for the tour and wine tasting of 3 ports .
The experience wasn't great. It started late and although the guide was knowledgeable the whole thing felt rushed and the 2 other guides behind us, who were delivering their talks much faster and pushing up behind us were really distracting. It all felt like a bit of a badly organised conveyor belt experience. At the end of which we were ushered to wide tables and sat infront of a flight of port waiting for something to happen. It felt like the whole process was being delivered for the first time as we waited in descending order of how much had been paid for the ticket, for the guide to came over and fill us in on what we were drinking .
Should have read previous reviews and gone to the outside bar area to the right of the building where we could have googled info about the port while enjoying the tasting with a one to one server . The port itelf tasted really good but I would suggest you save your money and spend it on a nice bottle instead. Lesson learned .

Calem wine cellar tour is a complete waste of time and money. They charge 13 euros for a 30 minute tour in which they should a video presentations projected on the walls. The only enduring value were the large wine caskets capped with wine tasting. No actual wine making processes shown here. I do not recommend these tours.

Didn't do the tour, but did their 3 port tasting just right of the main entrance.
There's a small stand with lots of tables to the right of the main entrance and asked about their tastings. Servers spoke English and gives you a menu for options to 3, or 5 port tastings with varying prices. Lots of options to pick from. We chose the 3 tastings for €13 where we had a short, medium, and long aged port. It comes with water and some salty snacks.
Our port connoisseur was amazing. He guided us through the different ports, which grapes they use, where it's grown, and why it might taste different from others. Explained everything well. Afterwards he'll leave you to finish your tastings, and gives you the option to buy more glasses (at regular price) or the bottle.
Great location, close to the beach and view of the river. Would try other Port with them.

Pre booked early morning English tour and when we got in, we noticed there were 47 people on our tour. Informative but due to number of people crowding round guide, it wasn’t always easy to hear the commentary and if you wanted to read any of the exhibits, the group may have moved on before you’d read it and the guide was already onto another commentary.

Tasting upstairs was organised and if you’d paid for premium tasting, you sat separately at end of table. Our table was full but mix of people and personalities made it really good.

If you can, I’d visit and see if you can see how many people are booked on the tours in your language as the later one on the day we visited only had 19 people on it and this would have been better.
