My friend and I went for the 'Wine Barrel bath' for 65 euros each on a wintry Sunday afternoon. The barrel bath was of reasonable quality, with a 5 minute head massage, grapes and tea served.

However, the real reason we visited was to get access to the facilities, which came along with any treatment. The views across the river were outstanding, and the pool did feel like an infinity pool. There was a Moorish-style spa section downstairs with little alcoves with beds. The thematic shower experience was a highlight.

Minor but important criticisms - (a) The hand towels in the men's changing rooms were never replenished throughout the course of the day (b) the automated lighting kept going off in the toilet and most importantly (c) the temperatures in all the pools/steam rooms were perhaps 3-4 degrees cooler than optimal. Small points, but little bits of criticism which I think are warranted for a place which was crowned one of the best hotel spas in Europe a few years ago.

We went here for a day spa at the end of a short trip to Porto. It is a first-rate spa in the most amazing setting. I don't frequent hotels of this calibre very often and the whole experience was magnificent.
We ordered lunch via room service which was delivered to us in the relaxation room in the spa on a white linened wheely table, with a fridge from which our wine was produced. An actual sommelier came down to check the wine pairings of our lunch. When we left we merely wandered up to the door, where three uniformed men were waiting, we asked for a taxi and one pulled up within 5 minutes. They grabbed all our bags and ushered us out to the taxi holding all doors and umbrellas above our heads.
I understand that if you often visit exclusive hotels this sort of behaviour might be standard, but for us it was lovely to experience this while only visiting the spa and not being actual hotel guests.
The spa itself, the pool room is beautiful and the gym exceptional (and also completely empty!). The relaxation room was calming and we could walk out onto a balcony overlooking the river. Down into the baths, there was a smaller, dark, warm pool, with little alcoves for sitting all around the room. Saunas, steam rooms, and showers for refreshing mid bath. The changing rooms were spotless, and nice conditioner/shampoo in the showers. It was perfect and relaxing and we felt like princesses.

This is a beautiful, first class spa in a truly beautiful hotel with exceptional spa services. This was a great respite after ten day visit to Portugal walking up and down the endless, but wonderful, hills of Portugal.

A Fantastic Spa at The Yeatman

We arrived at The Yeatman, after a trans-Atlantic flight from the USA, and had booked a Couple’s Massage at the Vinotherapie Caudalie, at the hotel. We had experienced the excellent Vinotherapie Caudalie spa, on a previous visit, and knew the timing of our check-in, so it was an easy decision to make. Also, as this holiday trip was sandwiched in between several business trips, we both needed a good massage, and there was no better place for that.

The Vinotherapie Caudalie is situated on a lower level of the expansive hotel, and one gets a bit of a history tour of Vila Nova de Gaia, the Port wine trade, Porto, and Portugal, as they walk to this secluded spa. Take time to read and observe, as it is like a museum, and all of the displays are interesting, and very well done - a prelude to an excellent spa treatment. Actually, that walk is worth it, even if not going to the spa, but might otherwise be missed. Also, the grapevines, used as wall art and sculpture are things of beauty, as is the spiral staircase in the rotunda like structure.

The spa is large, tranquil, and well-appointed. All of the staff we dealt with were professional and very welcoming. Our massage therapists great - at a time when we both needed a massage.

Besides the Vinotherapie Caudalie spa, the gym/exercise room is near-by, and well-equipped, as well. There is a pool, separate from that of the hotel, with a sweeping view of the Douro River Valley and Porto, just across that river - not to be missed.

Beautiful, tranquil and oh so welcoming. Our second visit was as good as our first, and a visit to the Vinotherapie Caudalie Spa, is now a must-do, when staying at The Yeatman - even if not staying at the hotel, I would gladly make a trip from across the river, Porto, just to visit this spa.

So relaxing and enjoyable. We booked to have facial treatments before having dinner at The Yeatman. This is the second time we have done this and this time it was as good if not better than 2 years ago. Last time we had our bodies covered in Merlot grape pips for exfoliation purposes. This time a gentle face mask was enough. Plus time spent in the Wellness Centre with various pools, saunas and showers and then swimming in the indoor pool. A perfect preparation for Portonic (like gin and tonic but with white port wine - try it!) in the bar and then dinner. The view over Porto is absolutely stunning as are the prices but this is a real treat and a much needed one before returning to work. Really good and enjoyable!

The Caudalie Spa at the Yeatman hotel is top notch. The spa facilities have a Roman bath, steam, sauna and light therapy showers as well as heated relaxation beds. The views from the lounge area of the Porto city on the other side of the river are breath taking and the Caudalie products and therapists are the best.
