The MUSEU do BRINCAR is an associative project Harlequin Theatre for Children that over several years has been dedicated to the collection of toys and other objects related to the child's world (clothing, school supplies, children's literature, collecting, etc.). Already has an extensive estate that round about 15,000 objects. Aims to be an interactive space that offers the child a strong contribution to their biopsychosocial development. A space that in addition to its museum collection, will have art gallery intended for children, workshops space, training of educators and teachers and a variety of activities of expressive areas (drama, music and plastic). But its universe of visitors does not open only to children today but also is a place for the elderly, where they can reactivate their childhood memories to relive yesterday's child and have a perception of what has changed over the decades. The PLAY MUSEUM is thus a strong focus on overall construction of the child not being forgotten your biopsicosociocultural dimension. Besides being a fun space is also a place of encounter with our history and our being a child.

The Museu do Brincar, is located in between the “Igreja Matriz de São Tiago” and the “Court House” and is installed since the 17th of April from the year 2012 in the “Palacete Visconde de Valdemouro”, this was the former building of the town hall in Vagos.

Its collection covers various areas of childhood, including domestically produced toys (tins, wood and plastic) and other objects related to the world of children (clothing, school supplies, children's literature, collecting, puppets, etc.). It already has an extensive collection of around 15,000 objects.

The museum comprises several spaces such as the “Castelo da Fantasia”, the “Forest”, the “Atelier de Expressão Plastico”, the “Tree House”, the “Dolls House” (where there is a miniature Victorian room) and the library, this one, with tunnels and trapdoors. This is really the place to be for families with children, but anyhow the great children can there view a lot of things from their own childhood, I did!!!
And the staff is very simpatic and more than friendly!

We discovered the play museum b chance as we happened to be staying in a near by hotel. We decided to pop in for an hour and take a look, three hours later we were told they were closing for lunch and we had to be on our way!
A wonderful place full of memories and wonderful exhibits, but much more than that, you can actually play. Our 2-year-old love exploring the rooms and actually being allowed to play with the toys, not just look like a standard museum. With fun rooms for arts and crafts, dress up and much more, it is a great place to take your kids for a few hours and let them run wild.
