    Stunning
We spent two days in Amerla room #9. The grounds are gorgeous with amazing view of The Douro river and the vineyards Room was comfortable and spacious. Had we been during warmer weather the small pool central to Amerla would have been the perfect ending to the day. The included breakfast was the best we had in all of Portugal. Staff were accommodating and pleasant. We also took the wine tour w tasting, and learned a little bit. This is such an amazing place, full of history, with a view and beauty that cannot be described. Would highly recommend staying here. We were totally happy and pleased with our choice! .

Great view from the tasting room and fantastic Port.
We were lucky as there was just me and my son on the tour. This made it very personal. The guide was very friendly - they must do this 100s of times but she was enthusiastic and answered all the questions. Good video introduction, a tour of where the grapes get crushed and then a look at the port in the barrels. Finally, the tasting, The room was great and there's an amazing view over the valley.

    Nice cellar tour and tasting
We had a lovely experience with our tour and tasting. Our guide was very informative and friendly. We saw the cellar and processing area and ended with a tasting of 4 wines in a modern area with a view of the valley. It would have been nice to tour the vineyard but that was not part of the tour.

We learnt a lot about the wine making process in the Douro Valley. This winery is not huge and is a family owned winery. The tour guide did a great job to explain about the history and the process. We then did a number of tastings which was great.

A great hotel with a truly great restaurant! I would like to come back ASAP! We stayed in one of the older, cheaper rooms and it was obviously recently redone. It's extremely comfortable and clean. There is a sitting room for the house and a million places on the property to sit and take in the view. My aunt has the base level suite abd her room is really cute and closer to the restaurant/main house. The restaurant had better food than our lunch at DOC (wine and service were not as polished). The bread is exceptional (and the smoked sausage butter). this is well worth a stop while in the Douro,

This is a special place! Visited over the weekend with my college age daughter and we had the best visit. I had been worried about a RS review calling it a bit ragtag, and all the reviews about a multitude of stairs - and was extremely impressed with how modern and first rate everything was. Our room, Casa do Barco was a former boathouse and had been transformed into a small apartment with a private terrace. The furnishings and build out were beautiful and it was so restful. Dinner at the restaurant was phenomenal and the wine tour was wonderful. The staff are committed to excellent service and helped us call taxis, and we felt well taken care of. I’m really glad we booked dinner and the wine tour ahead of time. I can’t say enough good about it - we would return in a heartbeat!

I strongly advise you rethink before booking this place. We booked online before we went because of the good reviews and completely regret our decision. We decided to book the wine tour, followed by a wine tasting with meats and cheese. This is also a note to the management not to falsely advertise.

We paid 10 euros per person for the wine tour. Our tour guide was knowledgable and the tour was nice, but it was a shame you didn't get to go to the vineyard like we expected from a wine tour at a vineyard. We also paid 10euros per person for wine tasting. We were given two wines and two ports to taste, this was reasonable value for money.
We also paid 15 euros per person for meat and cheese, and we expected to get a reasonable sized platter for this amount. We had to share a plate of meat and cheese between two people, therefore making each plate 30 euros. For 30 euros, each plate had 3 pieces of ham and 4 pieces of cheese. Therefore, just to reiterate, we paid 15 euros EACH (per person) for 1.5 small slices of ham and 2 small pieces of cheese. You get better value for money at the Ritz in London. It was a completely laughable amount and totally unacceptable. When we came to pay the bill we queried the amount, thinking it must have been a mistake, only to be faced with deceitful and sheepish staff trying to hide the fact we had just been massively ripped off.

A member of our group (Alexander P) also posted a review on trip advisor only to be met with an inaccurate response from the management in an attempt to save their reputation. The management stated it was 15 euros between 4 for the extra meat and cheese. This comment is in fact a complete lie- it was 15 euros EACH (PER PERSON). Making a total of 60 euros extra for our group of 4 for the meat and cheese option.

We visited Quinta de la Rosa last week as a group of 4 and were really excited for the occasion. We booked online and were offered the additional meats and cheese option for an extra 15 EUR per person (on top of 10 EUR for the tour and 10 EUR for wine tasting per person). With this in mind, we went for the 12.30pm slot and didn't eat any lunch prior to our trip. The tour at the beginning was interesting and insightful, although lasted no longer than 30 mins, with no tour of the vineyards (which we had been expecting having spoken to a few people in town who had been on other local tours)

After the tour we came back to the reception area which boasts pleasant views of the valley, and were expecting to be seated in there. Instead, we were taken downstairs in to what felt like a storage room, which did not boast anywhere near as good views as the main room. A group of 3 who had turned up on the day with no booking were seated upstairs in the main room, which was quite disappointing.

Downstairs in the room, we were given two small plates of ham and cheese to share between the 4 of us, which consisted of 4 measley bits of ham, 4 small bits of cheese, 2 bite size chocolate brownies and a tiny pot of almonds. If I had been given one plate to myself I would have been disappointed with paying 15 EUR per person (essentially 30 EUR for one small plate of nibbles). When you consider that we went out for a meal in the village that night which came to 50 EUR total for all 4 of us with an abundance of food and drink, this becomes nothing other than a complete rip off.

I would strongly recommend reconsidering your choice of venue for a wine tour in this region when you consider we spent 140 EUR for no longer than 1 1/2 hours in the place. We came away hungry and quite ironically with a real sour taste in our mouth (not because of the grapes). If you don't want to come away feeling like you've been ripped off then I highly discourage this place
