I've been to see shows here so many times! It's a gorgeous old site with lots of character. It's on the small side, so no bad seats. It's my favorite theatre in Hampton Roads,

Went to see Guys and Dolls and sat in box seats on stage right. Loved the show and love the Wells Theatre. It is a smaller theatre with a cozy atmosphere. (You are allowed to bring drinks into the theatre when you watch the show.) This was our second show at the Wells and we love going there.

VA Stage Co is doing a great job with their productions. The venue is outstanding and beautiful. This season has a wide variety of shows. Their Christmas productions are always a favorite.

While they claim to be the area's "leading professional theatre company", the production one witnessed was far from. A disruptive audience, flash photography, recording, and cell phone usage through out. Rustling concession bags, talking crew through the first 30 minutes. Unexpected lighting issues, then redoing an entire scene, and no education to the audience on how to be a good patron. Cat calls, ill placed applause, and disruptive behavior ruining and overshadowing powerful scenes. No theater attendants to ensure a respectful and enjoyable environment for all patrons. Every powerful moment and the artistry abruptly destroyed by uncultured viewers and the companies neglect to educate the audience as well. Tickets with sear assignments only to discover open seating, with no ushers helping to seat individuals to ensure available seats filled. I hope they ban flash photography, cell phones, and disruptive audience behavior and conduct a more professional theater experience for the sake of their production and patrons.

Was able to grab a ticket to their production of Mathilda upon arriving in town and am so glad I went. I had been wanting to see this show and this company did an amazing job. The young lead was phenomenal. I work on a high end national tour and I find great joy in watching a production that doesn't rely on high tech, grand stage gestures to tell the story. Sweet little vintage theatre makes for an intimate theatrical experience. Go support this local theatre...You will have a great time.
