A great evening on the river, away from the heat of the city streets. Well guided tour of the city and river first half, followed by a genial solo guitarist second half. Small area below decks for snacks and drinks, alcoholic and non. Large sitting area if it rains or you are too warm. Friendly crew, even let the young... More

Since I am a sailor at heart, I would have loved a better breeze! BUT overall I found the 1:30pm cruise to be delightful. The friendly, courteous & knowledgeable crew provided lots of good information as well as the opportunity to help set the sails. The only difficulty I had was actually locating their slip as there is a lot... More

Thanks for sailing with us! I appreciate the difficulties you had finding us behind the Waterside District construction. We are working with the contractor to get some better signage - hope to see you aboard again in the future! More

We were on board the American Rover for Norfolk's annual Parade of Sail. It was an amazing experience. The harbor tour, the bagpipes, the canons, just incredible. I would go back and do it again and again. The ship is beautiful. The crew is amazing. It was quite an event and we had terrific weather too. One of the most... More

We had a group of five. We called ahead for reservations but really didn't need them. Crew was very friendly and knowledgable. Cost was $28 for sunset cruise and offered $1 off for military. View wasn't of the prettiest but it is an industrial area. Still it was great. A gentleman played guitar and sang the last hour. (Nice touch!).... More

I was fortunate to enjoy another cruise on the American Rover on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 as part of a private event. The crew could not have been more friendly or more helpful. They were absolutely wonderful. The food that was provided on board was absolutely delicious, and the captain was extremely informative. A wonderful experience for couples, friends, and/or... More

Went with a small group of friends on a Sunday evening cruise on the American Rover and we all had a wonderful time. Our group arranged for food beforehand, so we had a nice sampling of appetizers and bought drinks at the bar. Prices for beer and wine were well priced with a decent selection. The Captain, Brandon, was very... More

Have taken this cruise a few years ago and again recently with grandchildren. Thoroughly relaxing with excellent captain and crew attentive to everyone's needs. Informative dialogue with interesting sights. Grandkids were asked to help raise the sails. Enjoyed watching our youngest when his feet came off the deck a few inches trying to raise the sail. Engine was shut off... More

If you would like an informative but relaxing cruise this is for you. We had a wonderful time on a beautiful ship. The captain and crew were very informative on the ships and landmarks that we passed.

If you desire a boat trip up and down a river and some history of the area/ships provided, which was interesting, this is for you. However, if you seek a "sailing" ship experience on open ocean . This is not. Ninety percent of the time, approximately, the ship was on engine. Briefly on sails which were set where the ship... More

Good afternoon - thanks for cruising with us even though the experience did not live up to your expectations. The American Rover is a true sailing ship and we do sail as much as possible - sometimes when the wind is not favorable we do have to use our engines so we can tour the sights of the Elizabeth River,...
