A beautiful pebble beach, with a small part of black sand usable only at low tide. The beach is wide, if you arrive early in the morning you can also take advantage of one of the free umbrellas available on the beach, and it does not get too crowded, even in the afternoon it remains livable.
Very beautiful sunset, the sky acquires beautiful colors.
Behind the cliff there is also a small waterfall, cute and not 'obsessed' by the queue of people queuing up to take pictures (like in Seixal or the angel waterfall).

Lovely beach but it is rocks/pebbles and not sand - lots of people wearing beach shoes. Walkways and parasols situated on the beach and you can hire sun loungers. Water was amazing and it was never too busy. Lifeguards on site.
Direct access to a couple of cafes which overlooked the beach and served nice food/drinks and ice cream.

Mostly empty, this beach is well-maintained with a man-made lagoon in front of Enotel Hotel at Sunset Bay, where we used their restrooms. There's hardly any activity, even in the hotel lobby. Where are the guests? Where are the tourists?
This place is beautiful but am I missing something?

Very beautiful below the small village. Park for free in the two tunnels or for a fee along the promenade. Cafe and free toilet and shower. Unfortunately, the beach is made of large stones which is hard to walk on, sit or lie. Difficult to walk in the water, both along the shoreline and inside the protected lagoon. Nice water with small fish, okay to snorkel. The municipality should have laid cement paths out into the sea to facilitate. There is a ladder at the end but it is 4-5 meters down to the water with high waves.

A lot of reviews seem to be downgrading Ponta do Sol because the beach is stony but, let's face it, the only sandy beach in Madeira had it's sand shipped in from elsewhere; the island does not abound in sandy beaches, so the Madeirans have had to do the best with what they have.
The village is easy to find and each time we have visited we have managed to find a parking space right on the sea front, although having to park further away would not involve you in much of a walk, but it would be uphill at the end of the day. Parking is charged at about 80 cents per hour, free after 1.00pm on Saturdays and all day Sunday.
The beach is sheltered by cliffs on either side of the cove and a man built water break (access prohibited to this), giving calm water within the breakwater.
The beach is stony, not little pebbles but sizeable stones. Walkways have been laid on top of the stones for access and there are a large number of sunbathing 'pallets' on the beach for use - imagine a large pallet or piece of decking which you lay on top of the stones - sun shades are also dotted around. There is a life guard on duty, a snack bar actually on the beach and a good cafe/restaurant on the terrace directly next to the beach.
If you fancy a walk up the hill at the side of the cove, there is a cafe perched on the side of the cliff, which must have great views over the bay and out to sea.
There are toilets and changing rooms provided and there seemed to be at least one company based on the beach offering diving tuition and trips.
The beach is well serviced, sheltered and not too crowded.

'Point of the sun' where you can bask in the sun. It is a pebble beach but has walk boards which you can also place a towel and enjoy the water. The ocean is in a man-made lagoon which allows for nice quiet swimming. Bring some sandals or beach shoes.

Ponta do Sol must be one of my favorite places to visit in Madeira, amazing beach, a lot of good restaurants to visit, and amazing people

Great view with amazing waves. It was very windy and a bit of rain. The beach is all pebbles with a great walk along the promenade.

During a car-trip on Madeira we stopped at Ponta do Sol and visited the beach. It's a rocky beach (no sand!) but it's worth a visit for sure. There is a small restaurant on the east side of the beach with a very special balcony. Try the terrace!

This beach about 30min drive away from Funchal. Nice and cosy. If you are tired of the tourist crowd, this is a great place to relax. Just be careful with parking because there is a security who controlls often for the parking tickets and distributes parking fines. So, make sure you pay the parking ticket and return back to your car before it expires.

Does anyone know the number for the taxi firm in Ponto Do Sol? We’re trying to get a taxi from the top of the hill down to the beach

Hello. Could you tell me whether there are any lockers to leave your valuables? (Or perhaps at a local shop or cafe has a facility?) And also whether there are any showers or changing rooms? Thanks.

Hallo, momenteel zijn wij in arco da calheta en zijn op zoek naar roots van de familie van mijn echtgenote, Carmen Pereira. Haar over groot ouders zouden uit Punta do Sol moeten komen? Vr.Gr. Jan en Carmen
