The visits are free and only at some days of the week. We went on a Wednesday, visits are from 2pm until 5pm and no need to book. Guide is done by the military people that work and look after the lighthouse. I have to mention that they do an excellent job looking after it. They do all maintenance themselves,... More

On the corner of barra beach is this massive lighthouse just in front of a hotel and a few cafes. Its a stunning building and would impress you right away. If you are fit and you have a strong personality, you can climb the almost 300 steps to the top of the lighthouse to have a good view of the... More

This lighthouse is certainly worth a visit, it is the highest lighthouse in Portugal. It is located on a wonderful corner where a great beach an a great fishing wall comes together. The beach is very clean and as safe as can be for infants to geriatrics. Along the wall everyone is fishing ..... from grandparents to young kids. A... More

Well worth the climb, great views and tons of history. The lighthouse itself is kept in impeccable condition. Must do if coming to Barra beach.

Farol da barra is one of the tallest in Europe, and the tallest building around many miles. Although I live nearby this was the first time I got the chance to "climb it" and enjoy the great views of all around. A must if you have the chance

This is a wonderful monument. It's a tall lighthouse, the tallest in Portugal and besides providing you with a great view if you enter and visit it, it also beautifies the landscape with its white and red stripes. This and the surrounding village are great places to visit if you happen to be staying in the neighborhood. If you plan... More

To visit this lighthouse you have to drive from the city centre in the direction of the coastal and harbour area of Aveiro, this is about 7 km straight on. When arriving on the end of the highway, turn right on the roundabout and follow the sign for the small coastal village named “BARRA”. Always straight ahead in the narrow... More
